"So what they are going to do is make you scared of me. You know he's not patriotic enough. He's got a funny name. You know, he doesn't look like those other presidents on the dollar bills."

Really?............Really Really?

What's with using their middle names. Did they suddenly become serial killers?

It is politically expedient for the right to play on ignorant people's xenophobia by referring to Barack Obama as Barack Hussein Obama. Because Hussein is also the last name of the deposed ruler of Iraq and doesn't sound much like "Washington" or "Jackson".

I don't think there is anything funny about that.

Last time I looked I wasn't part of McCain's campaign.

I can dig that. But I've never heard candidates middle names used (unless they use it themselves, but he goes by Barack Obama) and it is obviously because it's Muslim sounding. First of all, that's fear mongering because people in this country do have fears about Muslims, and secondly it shouldn't matter even if he was Muslim.

Exactly - up until you just mentioned it, I was not aware McCain's middle name is Sidney.

Edit - upon reflection, Sidney sounds sort of effeminate, am I to assume, just as Barak is a closet muslim, that McCain is also in the closet, not with Allah, but with another fella?

Hmm, I never ever heard William Jefferson Clinton being used.

Good point. Why is the media avoiding this? This "maverick" has gotten a free pass long enough.

I bet he secretly wears powdered wigs and has sex with his slaves.

Forget about the middle name. It's a Limbaugh thing. I'm surprised Obama is playing the race card. "I don't look like the other presidents..."

Weak.

Yes, and the followup/backtrack from his camp was disingenuous - Moi, talking about race? No!!

Very disappointing to me.

I'm curious as to how my Obama supporter friends will explain it away, like they always do.

The man can do no wrong in their eyes, I've never seen such blind, fervent support for a single politician.

I wish he wouldn't talk about race myself, but it is clearly an issue. I would never argue that everyone voting against him is doing so out of prejudice, just as I would never argue that everyone voting for him is just blindly jumping on the bandwagon -- it IS possible for two well-informed, well-reasoned voters to have a differences in opinion on how things should be done and who is the right man for the job. BUT there is clearly an element of race to this ... umm... race. From the Appalachian voters I saw during the primaries that had no problem declaring they would never vote for a black man ... on NATIONAL TV to those that may feel they are hip and cool or alleviate some guilt or that simply want a fellow African American elected, race is an issue for many. I don't think it is a big enough issue to change the outcome, however. If Obama loses it will not be because he is black. Just as the reason Obama beat Hillary was not because she was a woman. Although i DO agree with William Jefferson Clinton that his wife WAS treated differently as a female candidate (it just wasn't why she lost).

Obama is only pointing out the obvious. The other guys, maybe not McCain directly but his supporters, will and are trying to make Obama out to be a scary guy. How often is his name linked to Osama? How often do McCain Supporters use Obama

republican supporters who are lower on the evolutionary scale

What about the democrats who are lower on the evolutionary scale?

At least not any politician since Bush

That is more blind, fervent support for a policy and party than it is for a person. Install anyone else into his place, and the same people will support him, because of what he represents.

Whereas it seems to me, much of the support is for Obama the man, rather than Obama the policies.

And the whole Paris Brittney thing is coded racial 100%. They want people to see Obama and two young white women together in the same ad to give those republican supporters who are lower on the evolutionary scale the image of the scary black man scrounging for white women. Ditto for the Rove supplied imagery of the aloof Obama at the country club. The image being set is an aloof guy with a hot date only they conveyed image of his date is not his wife, but of a typical country club person i.e. a white woman.

please, if you didn't catch it yesterday, go over to comedy central's website and watch the opening clip from last night's daily show. 'OBAMA'S GIANT BLACK BALLS!'

i'm a litttle dissapointed that he took what could loosely be called 'the bait', but (for the record) while i'm a supporter...i hardly think the guy is or will ever be perfect. bobtothebob, we ain't all blind supporters.

All people who don't agree with me suck at everything!

Can we lose the blanket generalizations? Not all those who DON't support Obama are racist and not all those who do are sheep.

ETA: I'm not calling you out specifically, bobbob1313, just the one post in a series of generalizations that I happened to quote. This sort of thing is exactly what the candidates want us to do rather than to focus on the things that really matter.
