Jeff, Glenn, Pat and Barack on YouTube

This actually made me want to barf. I'm fine with musicians pitching their fave politicians, but that tripe about how Barack Obama can make this into the nation we used to aspire to just gags me.

THEY'RE ALL JUST POLITICIANS, PEOPLE! I met President Bush in 2002, and he was extremely charismatic in person -- but that's basically a prerequisite to being a major political figure. I support Obama over McCain, but Jesus folks he's just another politician. He's not the dang Messiah, and four or five years from now the same people fired up for him will all have "Impeach Obama" bumper stickers.

Why? Because we will learn -- gasp -- that he's just another politician who will do what they can to advance the things they're most interested in, and cut deals with the devil on everything else.

And anyway, the way I see it, if you think you deserve to be the most powerful man / woman on the face of the earth, then you are suspect from the get-go.

"There are many here among us who feel that life is but a joke."

Some people are passionate about changing the direction from an imperial hierarchy (oligarchy per Jon Stewart) to a country that fights to help people and themselves, not kill people and take their shit. It is important. Feel it.

Watching Pat play the bass is like watching your dad drive your mom's car for the first time. It feels wrong at first, but then you stop and realize you always kind of knew he could do it well, if he needed to.

Pat actually plays bass in many (most) of the other bands he plays with. He's no newbie to that.... he's just a talented dude.

I have nothing to add to this discussion except to say...

"and to you we sing this final song...for you there is no hope!"

Only cool people will no what that means.

thanks so much for posting this! i was at this rally with my good friend and wilco die-hard chris, who drove in from grand rapids to see our favorite band and our presidential hopeful together.

just a recap if you were not there or cared: jeff joked that the band that evening was called "Ilc", referring to the fact that it was only part of wilco. i thought that was hilarious, and chris and i have been calling that incarnation Ilc ever since.

i would be voting for obama in this campaign even if wilco or jeff alone wasn't endorsing him. i'd like to think that most people that like both of them feel that way. still, it is nice to know that our favorite band supports causes that they believe in! that's always been something i've loved about wilco, personally.

btw, trivial note: that show was july 11. chandler (taper CKC) and i were married the next morning, so chris and i like to joke that we hung out with barack and jeff/pat/glenn at my "bachelorette party"! what great memories! :D
