remphish1
http://blog.wired.com/cars/2008/11/it-seems-kind-o.html I have flown Ryan Air 4 times before and I understand how it works! It really is no frills! If you bring a carry on, bring your own food etc you will be ok. Be prepared to fly far from the city center but if you want to save money it is worth it. I have flown Ryan Air and here is my issues with my journeys 1. Oslo (Torp)- Frankfurt (Hahn)- Both airports were over an hour and a half from the city. Bus transportation was reasonable to/from both airports. I got my lugage off the plane in like 5 minutes! Flight was early and clean. 2. Tempere Finland-Riga Latvia- My lugage was overweight by 3kilograms! Might have cost an extra $75? if I didn't take action. I threw out some books and a pair of sneakers and put on a few extra sweaters! Crisis avoided 3. Riga-Tampere- Flight left 20 minutes before it was supposed to. Sold out flight everyone was onboard early so we left! I couldn't believe we arrived 15 minutes or so after we were supposed to take off! Awesome! 4. Dublin-Edinburgh- Flight was ontime. No crazy fees this time just very uncomfortable seats. For these 4 flights I think I never paid more than $40 for any of these. Any of these flights if they were 1 way in the US would be $200+. I look forward to Ryan Air in the US! I hope they will do inter US travel too! Anyone have Ryan Air expierences?
dondoboy
I'm sorry, I'm not flying across the Atlantic on an airline named after my cousin Ryan. He's not all there, if you know what I mean.
Calexico
Worst airline going but cheap as chips so it has that going for it. Guaranteed to land you miles and miles away from where you actually want to go. Complete rip off bastards if bags are overweight. The CEO of the company is one tough, no nonsense hombre. Michael O'Leary, takes no shit. He should be Prime Minister here, get some of the crap sorted out.
Calexico
Jaysus, I just read that link there and imagine flying across the Atlantic on one of Ryanair's jalopies!? I would keel over with DVT about halfway across!
Sir Stewart
Sounds like a Fung Wah bus with wings.
gogo
We've tried them before, usually for short trips between stops in Europe (fly SF-London and return, then hop around on cheapie airlines in-between). But when we're traveling like that, we have to lug all of our luggage around with us, so the overweight-bags charges on Ryan usually kill us.
remphish1
Sounds like a Fung Wah bus with wings. That's a good description! Ryan Air doesn't go from Chinatown to Chinatown though...
explodo
I flew from Shannon Airport to Barcelona via Ryanair. It was okay. You just need to be aware as to where they are going to dump you. I would be interested in this if they were flying out of Chicago.

Oil Can Boyd
I read the headline quickly and at first thought it said that Ryan Adams was offering $15 tickets from US to Europe.
Elixir Sue
Sign me up. I'm not too good to go on a Greyhound in the sky.

pillowy star
I frequently flew Ryanair from Stansted to Newquay (UK) because it was the only affordable way to get to my husband when he was still living in the UK. Always dreaded those flights because the planes are old, the staff is completely untrained, the audience is.............hm..................let's just say takes getting used to, and the extra fees (esp. for luggage) are a disgrace. Rob and I wanted to fly from Luton to Dublin in Summer 2007 coming from another flight with another low-budget airline which thought that as long as both our suitcases didn't exceed the double weight limit, it was fine. Not so Ryanair. One of our cases was below the weight limit, one was above, but still within the limit for 2 people who are flying together on the same bill. Still, they insisted that none of our cases was supposed to be over 15 kg. Reasonable argumentation like "listen, these cases will go on board anyway, so what does it matter how much each of them weighs, as long as both together are under 30 kg?" or "shall we just take 5 additional kgs into our hand luggage each then? the weight on the plane will STILL be the same!" is wasted time. So we had to unpack both suitcases until each of them was exactly under 15 kg. They are complete f*cktards, and whenever I can avoid flying with them, I will. If they should ever offer 15$ flights from Frankfurt (or London) to Chicago or San Francisco, well then I will gladly check both of our suitcases weights before
mfwahl
A transatlantic flight is one thing that I am willing to pay a lot of money for. If I'm stuck in a box for 10+ hours, I want plenty of booze, movies, snacks, and handjobs.

remphish1
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20090227/od_uk_..._ryanair_toilet BAAAAAAD IDEA! How many people will not have a pound and go have an incident outside of the bathroom....yuck
ThisIsNowhere
Never heard of them but for $15 you can't go wrong. Plus they fly to Frankfurt and I'm pretty sure you can get a connecting flight from there on one of the European airlines for pretty cheap.
HungryHippo
Ryan Air flights remind me of that Twilight Zone episode with William Shatner where a monster is on the wing trying to tear the plane apart. that could probably happen on a Ryan Air flight.
