myboyblue
I've literally never heard of them. I'll have to check it out.
Moss
Damn Solace, I swear you have to be making some of these bands up. There are not enough hours in the day to both discover and listen to all of these! I love hearing about them though, even if I never get around to listening.

I love hearing about them though, even if I never get around to listening. huh.honestly didn't know they were that unknown. their single 'Run Run Run' from a few years ago got some decent airplay over here. one of their members was in a band with Thomas Bangalter from Daft Punk years ago too. definitely check out 'Consolation Prizes' and 'Long Distance Call' on YouTube. they're def very poppy, but it's not mindless/top 40 either. Oil Can Boyd
For French rock and rollers they are pretty damn good. I really like their album Alphabetical. I saw them a few years ago when I was out in LA and they were great. Much more rocking than the albums.
mjpuczko
no clue about the band but the green man is f'in hilarious! i love that show.
jakobnicholas
"It's Never Been Like That", their 2006 release, is FANTASTIC. One of the best records of recent years. It's just got a smooth, rockin' sound. Nothing too edgy or "artsy", but not bland in ANY way. I, too, look forward to the new album.
Oil Can Boyd
Via Pitchfork: Phoenix's new album, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, doesn't come out until May 26 (for now), but they'll hit "SNL" a week from this Saturday, April 4. The pop-rock quartet are set to play the Best New Music'd "1901" and the quite-possibly-even-catchier first single "Lisztomania", which hasn't been released in any official form yet. Looks like things are really coming together for these well-dressed Frenchmen-- and we anticipate even bigger things from them in the coming months. Seth Rogen hosts the April 4 episode, officially making it a can't miss. So don't.

Chris_H_2
What's the story with these guys? Who do they sound like? Is this like a French version of Franz Ferdinand, Doves, Snow Patrol, etc., or do they have their own unique sound? (I would click the links to find out, but my work computer doesn't permit me to listen to sound).
bsr8j
I'd never heard of this band either, but I really liked what I just watched over at Hulu from last night's SNL. I'll definitely have to check out their new album. Excerpts from last night's SNL, including both Phoenix performances
solace
they were a little more subdued on SNL last night than they are in concert, but still pretty sweet. great band though, been around since '99 and I can recommend all of their records, but mostly the last
tennisclay
if pitchfork gets phoenix lolla looks real bad. handsome furs have one of the best discs of the year and so far theyre playing do division st may 30. i dont know what the allure will be of lollapalooza
SquashedFrog
pretty impressive SNL gave them the very rare 3 songs in the broadcast...

Will have to check on some other stuff by them. Been around since 99? They must have been teenagers when they started.

Synthesizer Patel
i'm surprised how many people in this thread seem to have not heard of them. United was pretty big when it came out, thanks to French music being cool because of Air's Moon Safari. And as a result Too Young, Honeymoon, If I Ever Feel Better, On Fire, well most of the album got played a lot from what I can remember. I liked Alphabetical, but lost them after that - I might check out this new one.
solace
while i like United and Alphabetical, my favorites are the last 2 i think
Synthesizer Patel
while i like United and Alphabetical, my favorites are the last 2 i think i'll have to check them out then. they haven't changed style have they?
solace
not really... maybe become a tighter and more polished band, but they've always been pretty damn poppy. the new one has a bit more energy and some nice electronic synths here and there. it's a much fuller sound, but still very much sounds like Phoenix
bleedorange
I don't recall having much of an opinion one way or the other about their last album, but I'm looking forward to this one.
Calexico
This is the same band that had that Too Young single a while back? Frenchies? They were a couple of good singles off that debut album.
bleedorange
This is the same band that had that Too Young single a while back? Frenchies? They were a couple of good singles off that debut album. Wasn't "Too Young" in Lost in Translation or was that a different song?
Calexico
Wasn't "Too Young" in Lost in Translation or was that a different song? That movie with Bill Murray and the eternally annoying Scarlet J? Jeez, that was some boring ass shit.
