Damn Solace, I swear you have to be making some of these bands up. There are not enough hours in the day to both discover and listen to all of these! I love hearing about them though, even if I never get around to listening.

huh.

honestly didn't know they were that unknown. their single 'Run Run Run' from a few years ago got some decent airplay over here.

one of their members was in a band with Thomas Bangalter from Daft Punk years ago too.

definitely check out 'Consolation Prizes' and 'Long Distance Call' on YouTube. they're def very poppy, but it's not mindless/top 40 either.

Via Pitchfork:

Phoenix's new album, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, doesn't come out until May 26 (for now), but they'll hit "SNL" a week from this Saturday, April 4.

The pop-rock quartet are set to play the Best New Music'd "1901" and the quite-possibly-even-catchier first single "Lisztomania", which hasn't been released in any official form yet. Looks like things are really coming together for these well-dressed Frenchmen-- and we anticipate even bigger things from them in the coming months.

Seth Rogen hosts the April 4 episode, officially making it a can't miss. So don't.

What's the story with these guys? Who do they sound like? Is this like a French version of Franz Ferdinand, Doves, Snow Patrol, etc., or do they have their own unique sound? (I would click the links to find out, but my work computer doesn't permit me to listen to sound).

they were a little more subdued on SNL last night than they are in concert, but still pretty sweet.

great band though, been around since '99 and I can recommend all of their records, but mostly the last 3

They sounded great on SNL. Will have to check on some other stuff by them. Been around since 99? They must have been teenagers when they started.

i'm surprised how many people in this thread seem to have not heard of them. United was pretty big when it came out, thanks to French music being cool because of Air's Moon Safari. And as a result Too Young, Honeymoon, If I Ever Feel Better, On Fire, well most of the album got played a lot from what I can remember. I liked Alphabetical, but lost them after that - I might check out this new one.

not really... maybe become a tighter and more polished band, but they've always been pretty damn poppy.

the new one has a bit more energy and some nice electronic synths here and there. it's a much fuller sound, but still very much sounds like Phoenix

Wasn't "Too Young" in Lost in Translation or was that a different song?

That movie with Bill Murray and the eternally annoying Scarlet J? Jeez, that was some boring ass shit.
