Wendy
The handler was really cool and we talked about the camel (dromedary) and what his name was, where he came from, etc. I thought Tzvi (Schvee/Svee) was a Swedish name, but the handler said it's Hebrew.Wait - I thought we learned today it was a Bactrian camel? Dude
Apparently, no matter how difficult it is for Prince to get a camel delivered to his door in the dead of winter at 3AM, Wilco is unfettered by such problems and has some of the best camel-acquiring connections in the music biz. RainDogToo
From Time Out Chicago: Wilco (the camel) Posted in Music by Brent DiCrescenzo on May 8th, 2009 at 12:59 pm That is the (awesome) cover to the new (hopefully awesome) Wilco album, Wilco (The Album). I love it. Sky Blue Sky came wrapped in a strikingly beautiful image, but the black & white shot of vague birds was an unfortunate warning of the mildly disappointing and homogeneous fluttering inside. If the new artwork is any indication, Wilco just got absurd, out of place and exotic. And there
watchtower41
Allow me to shed some further light on this album cover if I may... my gf and I were in Milwaukee for the Wilco shows last month and happened to eat at Mader's for lunch the day the fellas were taking the shots with the camel outside the restaurant. (this was Night 2 April 15th) So I approach my car for a cig, and notice this huge camel in the alley behind the parking lot...I immediately think this odd, so I point it out to my girlfriend. Upon second look we noticed some professional lighting and several taking photos....We figured ok cool, they are filming some random commerical or ad. We went across the street to the Wisconsin Cheese store to grab some goodies, and I noticed nudie suits in the window (again I thought this was kinda odd, did Wilco actually buy these in Milwaukee?? They look VERY familiar) I wanted to go check out this store that had these up in the window, but decided to pass with the fear that I might be walking out with a $400 nudie suit lol. Anyways we go buy some cheese and walk back to the car, still in the Mader's lot. I notice the camel is still there in the alley, this time with a random guy with a nudie suit tending the massive animal. I do a quick second take and HOLY SHIT that is Wilco taking photos with the camel!!! I immediately grab my show poster and camera from the car, I think my gf thought I was gonna faint and start to walk over to the scene. The whole band was taking photos in front of the camel in the back alley behind Mader's. Everything wraps up within a couple minutes, not even enough time for me to change the battery on my digital camera. As the shoot wraps up, the fellas quicky disperse to head into Turner's for lunch as it was overheard. I was kinda laying low in the background, but as they were walking in, I walk up to John, introduced myslef and thanked him for the great show the previous night while I asked if he would sign my poster. He graciously obliged and as we were chatting up a bit, talking about how the photos were for the new album cover (Jeff mentioned for fans to show up early at the Pabst for the photo shoot the prior night) I noticed Pat and Jeff walking in during this time as well so I gave a quick nod and hello. I didn't want to invade too much of their time, afterall they were at work. But I felt I had to check what the scene was all about and would have hated myself if I had not taken advantage of this unique opportunity. I did manage to take this one photo of the camel after the fellas went in for lunch, there was no way in hell I was waiting for them to come out or go in to try and chat more. I do think the album cover might have been taken from the Turner roof though, there was a very large frieght elevator that the camel could have easily fit in. I for one cannot wait to frame and hang the vinyl cover of this album in my place of residence. Awesome.
lost highway
Are you suggesting that Kevin Smith has filmed "The Making of Wilco The Ablum"? Because that could be great. That would be the fastest way to fill the documentary with pseudo-witty fart and bong humor at a clip so unnaturally fast you can't believe the characters. Sure to make some gains in the under eighteen audience for Wilco.

Guest Speed Racer
God, just look how that camel carries itself. What a prima donna. Anyways we go buy some cheese and walk back to the car, That phrase is required by law to be a segue in any story involving Wisconsin, correct?

Can't even imagine walking out to my car and seeing a huge camel in an alley. Priceless. No kidding, nevermind the fact the 9 foot-1500 pound animal was taking pictures with my favorite band. It was a pleasant surprise after a delightful German lunch that's for sure.
