Brigs
yes i started a thread as a complaint toward wilco fans that I had encountered at a show. we had/have a disagreement and as a result came a healthy 3-day debate over our opinions. even though we differ in opinions, why do you feel it necessary to intervene in our debate and block the thread? I understand you have the power to do so, congrats to you. But come on man, no one is being blatantly called out or offended here, why not just sit back and observe on your own instead of feeling the need to flex your imaginary muscle? the whole idea behind a message board is to voice an opinion that would normally be interrupted or overlooked. Although I disagree with most the responses in the "UIC Night 2" thread, I still greatly appreciate and enjoy the idea of free thoughts and opinions. So who are you to stop that? Guest Speed Racer
So who are you to stop that? An incredibly reasonable, gracious, not in the least way power-trippy moderator and administrator. She was right to close it, and I'm surprised that didn't happen somewhere around Page 5. Kidsmoke, FTW!
Doug C
I wasn't offended by the thread being closed but I do have a question regarding closures. What is the criteria? I am sure that it is in some rule thread somewhere but I couldn't be arsed. This thread was 'rightfully' closed. What made it 'right'? No name-calling, porn photos, racism or other negative 'isms', no major disrespect, etc. It just seemed to be a circular discussion, which is true of the vast majority (if not all) of the threads on the internet. What is the harm in allowing an inoffensive thread to go on and on and on until it dies of a natural death or becomes offensive/inappropriate thus requiring exceution? Signed, I am curious yellow

Let's face it, you have the right to do whatever you can get away with, isn't that the American way?? Now that we have established that being a rude asshole is okay, why should we talk about it anymore? LouieB

Sir Stewart
If I were Lance, I think I'd call bullshit on this board, and tell people that the Wilco fans on VC kind of suck. That's what I got out of that thread.

bobfrombob
... I still greatly appreciate and enjoy the idea of free thoughts and opinions... I didn't see a lot of "thoughts" in that thread. I just saw people saying that you were wrong and you replying that you were right. In addition, you took shots at people older than you, shots at people who show up early, and shots at people who use earplugs. Given those are your first posts here, I can't believe you are really surprised at the reaction. It looked like a troll job to me - I think that's why the thread was closed. Don't forget taking shots at people who were still posting in the thread. I guess he started this one because he didn't get around to taking shots at authority figures in the other thread. ih8music
I wasn't following that thread too closely (thankfully), but if it was locked simply because people were tired of the debate going around in circles then that's pretty silly. just ignore it and it'll fall off the front page in no time. Worst case, people will continue to bicker - but as long as no one is violating any of the rules (threats, insults, etc), I don't see what the harm is. this is the internethingy, after all... You were the same dude mock-laughing in said thread that we even cared about the "topic" you started, now you're starting a new thread whining about it's closure. Why? Explain this to me? Browse long enough and you'll find that VC is generally more civil and mature than your average band message board. You should get into it, it's a pretty nice place to be. A heavy-handed moderator would have 1) immediately closed this additional thread; 2) banned the OP. And yes, that's what I would have done. So, uh, count your blessings, Lance. Oh, and welcome to VC. kidsmoke
Ok who else thinks I really ought to change my display name to "kidsmoke, WTF!" ?
