people are leaving
Check out my non-threaded thread...you might find it interesting, including the links. Ah, what a coincidence being that I never saw that thread. I was aware of the release (hence my comment), and typically am always interested in ragtime or anything of the like. I'll check it out. Thanks
Synthesizer Patel
Yea, me too basically. These threads always turn into a list of every person remotely like what we are talking about including a few oddballs thrown in (Elizabeth Cotton wasn't much of a singer). I just think it is funny that once people get started all the most obscure artists get mentioned. (No one seems to have mentioned all the great jazz singers such as Ella Fitzgerald or Sarah Vaugh, but then again they aren't singersongwriters either..) LouieB Ella Fitzgerald was mentioned in the second post of this thread; and I've not really seen any oddballs, unless you mean Nico? But, she's a very very well known oddball, with some pretty damn good albums too - making her a good artist worth mentioning.

LouieB
I'm more than fine with that. Actually I do know who she is, she is the bass player with the DBT....not so well known as a singer however. LouieB

a-me-with-a-you
At the moment, I think Laura Marling tops my most talented female artists creating today. Slightly more low profile, Emmy The Great really can't do much wrong in my eyes either. If we venture into "of all time" territory, Aimee Mann would take the cake, no doubt about it.
