PopTodd
Martin Scorsese gave one of the best, most gracious acceptance speeches that I have ever heard at one of these things -- especially for a lifetime achievement-type award. I did not expect that. He never came off (to me) as a particularly good or eloquent speaker in the times that I have seen him interviewed, or speak publically. Just a really pleasant surprise. I was also happy to see Robert Downey win for Sherlock Holmes. He made that movie.
Guest Runaway Jim
I didn't watch, but I'm glad to see Michael C. Hall and John Lithgow won for Dexter - Season 4.
barbkm
Is it me, or was the camera work a luttle sub par -- not the camera work, but direction. They kept cutting to radnom people who had nothing to do with who was being introduced, or cutting to a camera that was moving.

They kept cutting to radnom people who had nothing to do with who was being introduced, or cutting to a camera that was moving. the wife and I noticed the same thing. when they did the Hughes tribute, they had the shots off (the "a brain, an athlete..." part) I also remember them flubbing shots to nominees on one category. I have avoided this thread because of my ire against Avatar winning best picture, but my resentment has now settled into a somewhat acceptable level, so I think I can handle it now. bleedorange
Up in the Air is one of the few movies I've seen this year, but it was absolutely incredible. I was hoping that would sweep all the awards it was nominated for. I have a lot of catching up to do on these other movies.

Sir Stewart
I caught two minutes of this, which included Ricky Gervais introducing Gerard Butler and Jennifer Aniston as "the bloke from 300 and Rachel from Friends", so it was totally worth the time.
Atticus
I liked when Gervais said "I like a drink as much as the next guy, unless the next guy is... Mel Gibson"
bböp
McCartney delivered the best line by far when, introducing the animated film category, said, "Animation isn't just for kids. It's also for adults.. who take drugs."
watch me fall
I watched just to see if Glee would win and it did, so I'm good. Still can't believe The Hangover won for best comedy.

watch me fall
I recently learned that Christina Hendricks is married to the guy who played Joseph Gordon-Levitt's best friend in (500) Days of Summer. I suppose opposites do attract.
u2roolz
Did anyone else catch Mickey Roarke roll his eyes after he announced Sandra Bullock for Best Actress for Drama? I actually thought that he let out a groan or a sigh. And she didn't kiss him either.

u2roolz
Yeah, I loved her all the way back when she had a role on Firefly. Can't wait to finally watch Mad Men. For other reasons too. I think it's safe to say, If I were married to her, I wouldn't be posting here on a daily basis.
Calexico
Ricky Gervais, my Lord. How have people fallen for this twat? A smug, self serving, unfunny, fat English guy. Unbearable to watch. I recorded the show and FF all the way through his woeful pieces. The Hangover. A lot of people I know told me to see this as it was sooooo funny. What a heap of garbage. A few chucklesome moments but in the main....for people who think dick jokes are the height of comedic endeavour. Balderdash. In The Air, on the other hand, was wonderful. Well written, beautifully acted and funny without trying to hit you over the head with it. I despair when I see how people love The Hangover but my despair is tempered by the sterling work being done at American cable companies. Shows such as Mad Men, Entourage, Dexter and even network stuff like Friday Night Lights and Lost..all these make me glad that some people in the visual entertainment industry don't think that lowest common denominator material "will do".
