I have the CD and VHS of the show. Some really nice performances. Neil Young stole the show if I recall. Also remember Sinead O'Conner getting booed off.

Do you think we'll be treated to a 50th Anniversary show next year?

Sinead wasn't exactly booed off-- she got a lot of boo's (and some cheers) and stood there silently waiting, with her death glare....then she defiantly blasted the audience about freedom and walked off in a huff, if I remember right Kris Kristofferson was there consoling her.

I've seen this show a couple of times on tv, it was great - the performances by Lou Reed, George Harrison, and Neil Young were standouts for sure, and there was a really nice collaboration on My Back Pages with Harrison, Young, Petty, Dylan. GH also introduced Bob who played a really killer It's Alright Ma solo. I don't have the DVD but when I looked at it I noticed that Sinead is left off and so is Sophie B Hawkins -- her performance of I Want You is worth seeking out on Youtube.

edit: oops...the deluxe edition Aman posted above does include everything.

It's all coming back to me now....I remember a really, really horrible version of 'Like a Rolling Stone' by John Mellencamp (sp?). Also, when Dylan appeared at the end he looked really knackered and uninterested whilst everyone sucked up to him. I think Lou Reed did 'Foot of Pride' which was a nice choice.

PBS practically had this showing on a loop for a while there.

For me, the "My Back Pages" was the high and low point of the concert. High because George Harrison sang his verse so wonderfully, low because Eric Clapton screwed up the lyrics.

Is next year really 50 years? That's incredible.

I always thought the Lou Reed segment was not so great. He was reading the words off a music stand, and did not really seem to know the song.

Agreed 100%, Lou totally mailed it in that night. It was not like he was periodically checking the sheets for refreshers, he read almost the whole song. I thought that was rather weak. "My Back Pages" was definately the highlight but the one individual who I think stole the show was G.E. Smith. I know thats blasphemy with the likes of the company but he was on stage for almost every song. Turns out he was the music director for the whole show and didn't miss a beat.

KK wrote a song about it, "Sister Sinead," which was on his album from '09, Closer to the Bone.

I’m singing this song for my sister Sinead

Concerning the god awful mess that she made

When she told them her truth just as hard as she could

Her message profoundly was misunderstood

There’s humans entrusted with guarding our gold

And humans in charge of the saving of souls

And humans responded all over the world

Condemning that bald headed brave little girl

And maybe she’s crazy and maybe she ain’t

But so was Picasso and so were the saints

And she’s never been partial to shackles or chains

She’s too old for breaking and too young to tame

It’s askin’ for trouble to stick out your neck

In terms of a target a big silhouette

But some candles flicker and some candles fade

And some burn as true as my sister Sinead

And maybe she’s crazy and maybe she ain’t

But so was Picasso and so were the saints

And she’s never been partial to shackles or chains

She’s too old for breaking and too young to tame

Most of these performances are marginal, but Neil Young's Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues and All Along The Watchtower, along with George Harrison's Absolutely Sweet Marie are stellar.thumbup.gif

And Eddie Vedder's Masters of War is right in there.

Yeah I remember thinking back then that the most impressive thing about the whole affair was Eddie Vedder knowing all the words to Masters of War.

I thought most of it was very solid, actually 'The Band' was kind of a disappointment all sitting on their butts, and I thought Springsteen should've been there and Joe Cocker as well as some of Dylan's early 60's contemporaries. But I enjoyed the Bobfest.

Was just listening to Ron Woods's Anthology - The Seven Days from Dylan's 30th is on it, fantastic version with the Booker and the MG's. I haven't watched the 30th Anv. is a long time. I also remember that the PBS station in Carbondale played it a lot, which I was grateful for.

If you like Seven Days, check out Joe Cocker's version sometime. (from the album Sheffield Steel)

i love Harrison's version of Sweet marie. Its alright ma had great guitar work, but crappy vocals.

girl from the north country was done pretty good, as was Song to woody but that didnt make the official release.

i was always loved the Clancy's version of when the ship comes in.

bit of trivia: bob's vocals on My back pages are overdubbed in the studio before the album got released. he screwed up the lyrics and his voice was completely gone. i think there's audience bootleg footage of his original performance of it from the night
