Sweet Papa Crimbo
When I was a teenager, I used to have the following albums on the stereo changer every night... George Harrison Side 1 Disc 1 ALL THINGS MUST PASSPaul McCartney and Wings Side 1 BAND ON THE RUNRod Stewart Side 2 NEVER A DULL MOMENTPink Floyd Side 1 WISH YOU WERE HEREBruce Springsteen Side 1 BORN TO RUN This was about a little over an hour and a half of music and would lull me off to the land of winken, blinken and nod

u2roolz
The Cure - Pornography I remember being young and in high school and I'd take the bus home and wouldn't get into my house until 4pm at which point it was dark in the fall. I would put this on before my parents got home and crank it. It also worked well with their Seventeen Seconds and Faith albums. Edit: LOL. Yeah, maybe I didn't read the OP. You definitely don't want to be listening to these to help you sleep. I guess anything acoustic or quietly atmospheric would work.

calvino
Pink Floyd - The Final Cut. "Not Now John" and a few bomb sound effects may jolt you back awake, but I always found the album relaxing.
auctioneer69
Great idea. In addition to others: Cocteau Twins "Heaven and Las Vegas" and "Blue Bell Knoll" - both fantastic albums if you have never heard themWilco "Sky Blue Sky" - really mellow with a couple of exceptionsAphex Twin "Selected Ambient Works #1" - very chill but it does have a couple of very creepy songs on there tooSpiritualized "Ladies and Gentlmen We Are Floating In Space"Kraftwerk "Trans-Europe Express"Miles Davis "In A Silent Way" and "Sketches of Spain"David Bowie "Hunky Dory"Air "Moon Safari" I feel like I am missing a whole bunch of California-based seventies country rock and acoustic folk albums. Mr. Heartbreak
Also, Brian Eno's ambient stuff...Yes, especially Thursday Afternoon, which is one 60-minute track!
Wild Frank
It's not an artist you see mentioned here very often but how about: Jean Michel Jarre. His earlier albums are very nice night music. He also did a piece called 'Waiting for Cousteau', a forty-five minute ambient song which is perfect for insomnia (in a good way, not a critisim)
howdjadoo
Moody Blues "Days Of Future Past" seriously
