Guest Speed Racer
Well that kind of takes some of the joy out of it for me. I read that yesterday in the Washington Post. Even they wrote "What George W. Bush coined, 'enhanced interrogation techniques'". Like GON said, I don't consider my criticism or any criticism in this thread to be America-bashing, and my critique has more to do with the "THIS IS AWESOME OMG OMG OMG!" reactions than the act itself. Frankly, I'm still surprised people are so jubilant about something that, a few days later, hasn't really changed anything except perhaps Obama's reelection campaign. Moss
I thought the pep rally atmosphere was a little strange after his death but then again, blindly exuberant displays of nationalism always kind of freak me out. And if torture is what led to this than I really don't think it was worth it. But I do think the world is a better place without him.

Apparently they nabbed one of his couriers in 2005, and kept him in custody/active interrogation for about four years before he gave up the street name of another courier. Although I'm a bit annoyed by the over-exuberance, it's not like Americans are ever going to be able to celebrate the end of the war on terrorism.

Guest Jules
I'd much rather we went to all special ops (like with Bin Laden) to fight the terrorists vs. bombing. It would greatly reduce collateral damage and would cost us trillions less.Agreed. Good thing our buddies Bush and Rumsfeld jacked up the special ops funding when they were in charge. Sweet Papa Crimbo
Apparently this was a long term operation. Enhanced interrogation techniques in a CIA facility in eastern used on a courier captured in 2007 who gave up a name. Bush43 increased funding for Special Forces. But Obama had the stones to send in troops. Violating the airspace of a purportedly friendly nation informing them after the fact. Would have been a heck of a lot easier and safer to target some tomahawk missles. Obama gets the credit for eliminating Bin Laden in the same fashion that Bush41 gets the credit for the downfall of the Soviet Union. It was on their watch and they either facilitated or didn't impede the results.
