BACarver
I was surprised there wasn't a Facebook group for Wilco. So, here goes....https://www.facebook.com/groups/140317529420454/ We can make it what we want it to be as long as it stays focused on the band, the lyrics, the music and the community. And a great community it is.....!
Sweet Papa Crimbo
The band has their own facebook page...and they actually post stuff there.

mpolak21
yes they do. this is a place for fans to connect, share experiences and relate art to daily life. We used to have a VC Group on Facebook a few years back, then they switched everything around and I'm not sure if it's still there. --Mike
smells like flowers
I've avoided Facebook for all these years and don't intend to get on it now. Not dissing it -- for me, it's just not an interest. So, I'm glad VC's here with the first and last word on the Wilco. And I'm guessing there are a few other non-FBers on here too, so please don't jump ship now!
brownie
No Facebook for me either, and no interest in joining up there. I really appreciate Via Chicago. There don't seem to be many of these places left that still get a decent amount of traffic and posts.
BACarver
I certainly respect everyone's opinion to join or not. Some people just don't FB. Others do. VC doesn't have a FB group and by the judge of the people who "Like" Wilco's FB page, I think an alternative of, by and for the fans could gain some traction and be value-added for the community to interact, connect and share experiences from the past or in real-time (before, during or after a show). worldrecordplayer
I am someone who is active on FB, but don't feel the need to create a Wilco community there. Via Chicago is such a vibrant community for Wilco fans, I enjoy checking in here every day. Kinda reminds me of my days with the GD community on the WELL. I won't bash FB, but I would hate to see the VC energy get dissipated in any way.

I won't bash FB, but I would hate to see the VC energy get dissipated in any way.Exactly what I think. I spend time on both FB and VC every day, but I prefer seeing the fan-related Wilco discussions taking place here. Now, last year, before Solid Sound, we set up a specific Solid Sound 2011 page over on FB and that made sense, since the only people who were signed up were people going to the fest, and we could make arrangements, share personal messages, etc. a little more easily than on here. There was just more detail on the FB page about that specific event. That made sense--but no, I don't think we should have a mirror group on FB for general Wilco discussion. Shug
The Mother Hips have had a thriving fan-run message board, The Grotto, for over 15 years, but in the past couple years, the Facebook addictions of many of the consistent contributors, even in the band, has really drained the life out of The Grotto. People just post on Facebook and they don't post that much on the Grotto anymore and its a real shame to me. I'm not a fan of Facebook and I'd hate to see the fan energy spread too thinly over too many sites. I understand some people like Facebook and want to see everything they like on there, but I'm not in favor of it for the reason stated above. Don't really want to throw cold water on yer idea BACarver, but I gotta be honest, I hope Wilco fans just stay here.
