Thanks for posting this! I skipped out early on in the encore to avoid traffic out of Hartford and was really curious about what I missed. Good set tonight - mostly the usual songs, but a few fun ones thrown in. Always good to hear Side with the Seeds and Rising Red Lung. Beautiful theater! The audience immediately near me was pretty stiff and not very fun, but this was a Connecticut crowd on a Wednesday night after all ;) (jk)

First, speaking of a CT crowd on a Wednesday night, Tweedy commented on what a "rowdy" crowd it was for a Wednesday night. Of course then adding that all the other crowds on this tour sucked:)

But to the main point, what a difference a night makes, at least for me. The quality of the sound un this beautiful theater was superb (my first time there). I went from being 2 persons off the rail at MassMoca to 12 th row center in Hartford, and the difference was stark. Most noticeably in hearing Glenn's drumming (one of the main attractions for me at any Wilco show). I didn't realize how much I was missing on Tuesday until tonight. They had their full sound system in the Bushnell and the acoustics were spectacular. As for the show itself, a very fun night. I think I counted 10 songs played tonight that were different from Tuesday, enough to keep me highly entertained. Loved catching Laminated Cat, Pot Kettle, Side With the Seeds, Always in Love, and the rocking second encore.

A very fun 2 day road trip for me. Looks like I don't see them again until SS '13, which will be too long.

Thoughts..

The Venue is Great! The Sound People deserve good pay.

(Our Seats were on John 's SIde about 15 rows from stage)

Band played the usual tight format w/ very little banner from Tweedy

I was happy no one asked him tell us a story like last Friday in Newport

We did Clap I Mean WE It was Bruce Like Crowd for a Few Moments to the Opening of Heavy Metal Drummer

With just about everyone into it Tweedy did comment You Guys are the Best Clappers of the entire Tour

ON This One then quickly added The Other Crowds sucked at clapping on this one icon_wink.gif

The Setlist was a Keeper Started mellow and smooth then tilted to build to a Rocking End!

That's it for me until next summer in the Bershires for their Festival*

*Unless they decide to feed Boston/RI a Fall date to continue to build on their NE Base.

Hope is a good thing!

Lastly Thanks Wico! I'm Always appreciative of a Night With WILCO!

The Bushnell was a teriffic capper to my little 6-show jaunt starting in Brooklyn last week. I saw them play there last time around so I knew the acoustics would be superb. I brought a more casual fan with me so it was a great night to hear a few more "standards."

There was one song scratched from the original setlist (right before Late Greats). I found out what it was, then promptly forgot. Hopefully, someone who received a setlist will chime in on this.

I can't let this pass without mentioning how great I thought the Lee Renaldo Band was. I'm only a little familiar with Sonic Youth (saw them only 1 or 2x over the years) and I had not heard a single song by this band, and I thought they were great. Loved every song. Will definitely check them out again, and get their most recent release.

I'm going to say this old school-Oh My God!! That was a great show. This was my last show of 2012 and I was hoping to rock out and that's just what happened. Love Jeff banter but the show just didn't need any conversation. I was in the mezzanine so most people were sitting but it didn't bother me. Ran down to the front for the 2nd encore. Thank you Wilco for another great year and see you at SS in June

BTW Went to a great restaurant in Hartford called the Firebox before the show It was a bit pricey and the portions small but they advertise a farm to table philosophy and also support the lower economic community that they reside in so it was worth it. I would definitely travel back to Hartford just to go there.

I look forward to reading about the rest of the tour on VC-keep on posting!!

Glad you posted about Lee. As I've mentioned before, I've been enjoying his sets a lot. Having Nels and Pat sit in helps, of course, but I'm really digging these songs the more I hear them. Obviously he was always a bit of a third wheel in the Sonic Youth universe — though I'm sure some of their hardcore fans would probably beg to differ — but I always liked the few songs he got to sing in a given show.

As for these opening sets with Wilco, most of the songs have been the same from night to night but that's only natural when you only have one album to draw from and you have guests sitting in with your regular group. I appreciate that he's occasionally included a cover, like last night when he opened with David Crosby's Everybody's Been Burned. That was the first time on this run he's played that one — and it was a cool psyche-y rendition — but he's also sporadically done a Talking Heads cover ("Thank You For Sending Me An Angel"). And I've read at some of their other gigs not with Wilco that they've even done a song off The Monkees' Head record.

So anyway, for anyone interested, here was the Lee Ranaldo Band's opening set in Hartford:

Everybody's Been Burned [David Crosby]

Off The Wall

Angles

Tomorrow Never Comes (w/Nels Cline on electric guitar)

Xtina As I Knew Her (w/Nels Cline on electric guitar and Pat Sansone on organ)

Hammer Blows (w/Nels Cline on electric guitar and Pat Sansone on organ)

Stranded (w/Nels Cline on lap steel)

Fire Island (Phases) (w/Nels Cline on electric guitar)

Thanks bbop for posting the Lee Renaldo set, and explanatory comments. Loved the Crosby song, surprising to me I don't think I had ever heard it before. Your description of it is apt.

The song is on the Byrds album Younger Than Yesterday.

Also wanted to post this, but wasn't sure where to put it so I'll just put it here...

Kudos to Mr. Sansone (and Mr. Stirratt, to just a slightly lesser extent since he didn't sit in with the Ranaldo band) for being the proverbial hardest-working men in show biz last night.

After Wilco finished their show at 11:26 p.m., those two promptly jetted over to the nearby Arch Street Tavern (joined by the stalwart Autumn Defense rhythm section of G. Wiz and Haggs) and were sitting in with the Sarah Lee Guthrie and Johnny Irion band by midnight.

Then the Autumn D quartet snuck in a brief but fun mini-set of their own with Sarah Lee and Johnny and members of their band sitting in. They did five songs before the bar closed down promptly at 1.

Here's what they played:

The Sun In California

The Swallows Of London Town (w/Johnny Irion on tambourine)

Simple Explanation (w/Charlie Rose on pedal steel)

Feel You Now (w/Sarah Lee Guthrie on backing vocals, Johnny Irion on electric guitar and Charlie Rose on pedal steel)

It's Just That Simple (w/Sarah Lee Guthrie on backing vocals, Johnny Irion on electric guitar and Charlie Rose on pedal steel)

Whoa, sorry I didn't know about that. But maybe just as well, since I did have to drive back to Boston last night and show up for work today. But I would have thought about checking that out had I known.

I'm trying to remember the last time I didn't hear a Mermaid Ave song at a Wilco show and I'm drawing blanks.

I know I'm getting old and all shows blend into one, but didn't I hear "One By One" in Hartford or Mass MoCA?
