Theobscureart
I was watching the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame concert on tv and it got my mind grapes gushing... will Uncle Tupelo be inducted into the Hall? If memory serves, No Depression was released in 1990 making them eligible in 2015 as per induction guidelines. So whatdya think? Do they make it? If so, do they make it on the first ballot? Do Jeff and Jay play No Depression together?? (Please reserve comments as to the validity or bullshittedness of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame itself. It is what it is- its industry; its neat; and Axl didn't bother to show up for the show.) Thoughts? (However biased given the venue. Heh.)
LouieB
Do they deserve it from our perspective, sure, but let's get real; UT was a cult band from the midwest on a tiny ass label. Not a chance. Now give Wilco a bit of time....maybe. LouieB
PopTodd
Agree with everything that Louie said.If Husker Du isn't in, there is no way in hell that UT is getting in.

UT is our group, not the R&R Hall group. LouieB

LouieB
Yea, really. If you simply riff on the various "scenes" such as Husker Du and Replacements from Minneapolis and Brit rock or any other significant local scenes, you get a fairly large pool of artists. Uncle Tupelo was the result of the late 80s, early 90s post punk scene of metro-east /St. Louis which was not unlike many other scenes of the same time period around the country/world. Even in the realm of alt/country of that time period there were lots of groups engaged in similar kinds of music. Taking the music buisness as a whole, including those artists that were precurors to rock, through early rock and roll, classic rock and on and on, you end up with a sizable list to choose from. (We could name literally dozens of Chicago bands alone, which is why I threw EDD out there, which had great influence on their time and place and have ended up in the dustbin of musical history, even while still soldiering on to this day.) (This is where Pop Todd mentions Shrimp Boat and I concur and drop the name the Cocktails as well. Everyone has their favorite cult band/s. Had Wilco not devloped and matured, we would not even be here today to discuss this.) LouieB
moxiebean
No. Assuming we're all still around, Wilco's a shoo-in in 2020.
calvino
Assuming we're all still around, Wilco's a shoo-in in 2020. Should be, but I highly doubt it. Not enough record sales nor covers on the Rolling Stone.
Moss
Maybe, just maybe if one of them is willing to blow Jann Wenner.

IRememberDBoon
The Smiths should be in there soon
Sweet Papa Crimbo
Do they deserve it from our perspective, sure, but let's get real; UT was a cult band from the midwest on a tiny ass label. suites
Never UT....Wilco has 75% chance....Smiths will be eventually 75% as well. I think Wilco will get in because they have a few things going...1. Quality string of great records. 2. Live group willing to mix it up a bit. 3. Story with the whole record label thing. A few things that will keep them out is lack of wide spread popularity, lack of influence (that could change).
ih8music
Wilco also have a very critically-well-received documentary of them. Yet I'd still put their chances at 50-50 at best.
PopTodd
I do think that, were the HOF located in London, or anywhere in the UK, The Smiths are first-ballot inductees.
JAK2112
I do think that, were the HOF located in London, or anywhere in the UK, The Smiths are first-ballot inductees. I give the smiths a 90% shot at getting in, but definitely not first ballot, not popular enough.

Sweet Papa Crimbo
The Jam or T-Rex are mopey? huh... No...but they don't belong the the RnRHOF.Can you tell the story of the music without mentioning them? YES.
Blue and Green
no they don't belong.
Shakespeare In The Alley
t. rex is absolutely r&rhof worthy. glam rock and psych folk might not be the most prominent genres in music these days, but bolan paved the way for both of them. if they were gonna get in it probably would have happened already, but you could make a great case that they belong. uncle tupelo? no way. the scene they helped spawn is still a niche market, and their overall influence on rock music is minimal at best. i think wilco is even less likely, though with their status rising with each record you never know. Bolan gets in when KISS and Rush get in. And that would be after Jann Wenner dies
