JUDE
I cannot attest to Mr. Zimmerman’s state of mind or his motivations, racial prejudices or superhero complexes, but the level of ineptitude displayed by the prosecution during the trial was mind-boggling. After listening to the case (unedited court audio) for two weeks I was even starting to think that Casey Anthony actually could have been innocent and that the state of Florida has some of the worst attorneys to ever practice law in their employ. Hixter
Because they suspect that his targeting of Martin as a suspicious fellow had something to do with the color of his skin. There is no way to prove or disprove it. He apparently had called in lots of suspicious white folks as well, I really think he thought of himself as the Batman. This article is a year old, but it's probably the most thoroughly researched piece about George Zimmerman and describes the crime wave that had his neighbors on edge. Though civil rights demonstrators have argued Zimmerman should not have prejudged Martin, one black neighbor of the Zimmermans said recent history should be taken into account. "Let's talk about the elephant in the room. I'm black, OK?" the woman said, declining to be identified because she anticipated backlash due to her race. She leaned in to look a reporter directly in the eyes. "There were black boys robbing houses in this neighborhood," she said. "That's why George was suspicious of Trayvon Martin." Mr. Heartbreak
I may be made to travel to Florida at some point in my life, but it will be under duress, as it is a state full of seniles and misguided fools which deserves all the scorn decent people can heap upon it.Let's not blame all of Florida, okay? We have a douchebag far right governor, but we did vote for Obama twice, so it shows there is quite a high level of diversity here. It's also a state with a temperate climate and many beautiful beaches. And there are a lot of cool people here (I couldn't stand to live here if I were the only cool person.) Ass clowns like Zimmerman really shouldn't be allowed to have a CCP, especially with so many past actions involving violence and the law, but what can you do? The prosecution not only overreached by going for murder, they did a lousy job on such a circumstantial case. I didn't follow it that much, but several people commented that some of the prosecution team didn't look like they wanted to be there. I'm not defending Zimmerman (Hixter is doing a fine job of that), but sadly, I have to think that the jury had to have some reasonable doubt. I believe that the legal standard for 2nd degree murder was something like Z. had to have malice in his heart when he stepped out of his vehicle, and that the evidence of the case had to support that beyond a reasonable doubt. How could it? They should have gone for manslaughter from the beginning, which is probably why the judge mentioned that option towards the end.

uncool2pillow
GON's and Hixter's links both seem pretty reliable (lawyers admitted this was his MySpace page & Reuters is pretty reliable news agency) and paint very different pictures. Of course the shit I post in here would reveal a different sort of person than my students see and my friends at church see. So I guess we're pretty complex people. A couple of points... 1) This one I made earlier. Both Zimmerman and Martin brought with some life experiences and baggage that led to this tragic incident. I keep going back to Zimmerman's bad and wholly unnecessary decision to get out of his vehicle. 2) Is there any documentation that any of Zimmerman's numerous calls to the police led to the apprehension of an honest to goodness criminal? Maybe so. If so, my charges of paranoia are maybe misplaced. But even given the crime problems cited in the Reuters piece, if he's calling in lots of random suspicions and none leads to any arrests, then we're dealing with a paranoid dude with some sort of vigilante complex. lost highway
I saw the pictures of Zimmerman's head. I wouldn't call it life threatening. I'd call it a good old fashioned ass whooping. I've only been in a couple fights in my life, but I know you have to be dealing with someone who's dead drunk, or tiny to be able to slam their head against something with great force. It's pretty hard to do. You also leave that person's arms free to do lots of things to you. Zimmerman sucks at fighting crime, he apparently sucks at fighting, but he's good at shooting people who are unarmed.

Zimmerman made 10 of them and only 4 were about suspicious people -- one of them was arrested 4 days later for possession of stolen property. It is hard to believe Zimmerman was not found to be guilty of anything. He would have to have committed a crime; you can't throw someone in jail for making a poor decision. I saw the pictures of Zimmerman's head. I wouldn't call it life threatening. I'd call it a good old fashioned ass whooping. If someone is reaches for your gun and tells you that you're going to die, it's far more serious than just an ass whooping.
uncool2pillow
Yes it is. Not sure why you insist on treating his version of the events as gospel truth. The man had taken another person's life and had every reason to embellish when possible to save his ass.

Yes, no witnesses... and given that he killed the only other person who really knows what happened that night, I'd hope you understand why many of us have a hard time believing that his account is 100% accurate. IRememberDBoon
hey Hixter do you have proof that Zimmerman didn't bash himself in the face and the back of the head?? to cover up a murder?? what proof do you have that Trayvon attacked Zimmerman as you claimed?? What proof?

uncool2pillow
I know it's wrong for me to use the n-word. I don't accept that it's okay for blacks to. That word and other negative stereotypes are played up in hip hop culture sold to rich, white suburban kids. That feeds the cultural monster that exploded that night in Sanford. Winston Legthigh
Well, that shows me he used the word, "Mexican" which last time I looked is a term for someone from Mexico. Many of my friends are proud to be called and refer to themselves as Mexicans. Not sure that reference is enough to brand him a racist. I think it's pretty safe to say that "gettin knifes pulled on you by every mexican you run into!" is a racist (or intolerant, uneducated, prejudiced, xenophobic, etc.) statement. Unless he's just a humorist, in which case it's safe to say he's hilarious.
