kidsmoke
CNN is reporting that "Suspect 1" has been killed in a gun battle with police, and "Suspect 2" is on the run in a Boston neighborhood. A police officer has also been killed. Here's the link: http://edition.cnn.com/2013/04/19/us/boston-area-violence/index.html?hpt=hp_t1 Be safe, all of you in Boston, and especially in Watertown. [updated 7:03 a.m. ET] The Associated Press has reported that the two suspects in the Boston Marathon bombings are brothers from Chechnya.
kidsmoke
[updated 7:28 a.m. ET] Recapping what a doctor at Boston's Beth Israel told reporters this morning about the death of the man police believe is "Suspect No. 1" in the Boston bombings: He had bullet wounds and injuries from an explosion, the doctor said. Sounds like he somewhat blew himself up. It's hard to feel sorry, isn't it? [updated 7:32 a.m. ET] Police in the Boston-area community of Cambridge say the public should "clear area of Norfolk Street in Cambridge." "Ongoing investigation. Potentially dangerous," This is reminding me powerfully of the lunacy surrounding renegade cop Christopher Dorner in this area (Southern CA) recently.

bleedorange
Why was the other thread locked? Crow got mad that nobody was posting in the West explosion thread.
Magnetized
Actually Crow made his reasons known in his last post on the West, Texas explosion thread, as Bleedorange said.
kidsmoke
Yeah, I see that now, thanks Diane. I just meant that it wasn't an admin closure.

Oil Can Boyd
It's been a weird 12 hours in the Boston area. I was out in Central Square in Cambridge (about a half mile from where they shot the MIT police officer) seeing a friend's band last night and I started getting texts about a shooting near MIT. As I was getting ready to go home (about 12:30) there was a text about avoiding the MIT area. The drive home was a little crazy. As I got close to the Charles River there was a steady stream of police cars. I must have seen about 40 or 50 police vehicles all racing past with their sirens on. The guys had hijacked a car and I guess the driver escaped at a gas station about a block from where I was. I couldn't find anything on the radio but watched it on TV for a while when I got home. I got up this morning to texts/emails about everything being closed and locked down. We are now at home and there is an eerie silence. No cars, no busses. Occasionally a helicopter flies over. Hixter
1) Tea partier? NOPE2) Caucasian? YEP (Chechnya is part of the Caucasus from which the term is derived.)3) Late 20s-early 30s? YEP and NOPE4) Veteran? NOPE5) Acted alone or with one other? YEP (Although additional people could have been involved.)6) Local to Boston? YEP I suspect more than a few people are upset that the bombers were Muslims and not pasty, right-wing Anglos.

Thanks for the account. Having lived there just about all my life except for the past two years, there is a very strange disconnect in how my brain is processing all this: I'm right down the street from all this! Oh wait, I'm 300 miles away...
Sweet Papa Crimbo
Crow got mad that nobody was posting in the West explosion thread. Actually, it was more of a knee jerk reaction to NoJs trolling in the Marathon thread.I didn't have the stomach to see asshattery in the West thread. I could sense it coming. Sweet Papa Crimbo
Not sure what your point is, but this picture I use as an avatar STILL cracks me up.It's not a dig at Nixon. I just love this like I love the Chad Vader clips on Youtube.

kidsmoke
Briefing soon from the FBI. I can hear it now..."Uh, we haven't seen him, have any of you?"
The High Heat
David Green, from Florida, took this photo after the second explosion. Look who's (sans backpack) walking around the corner and away from the blast.
kidsmoke
That's hard to look at...all that fear evident in everyone else in the picture, and this boy strolling calmly along, knowing he's just killed and horribly maimed people. Wow.

The High Heat
I hope this will be over soon. CBS is reporting that the older brother popped up on the FBI's radar two years ago, they interviewed him, but we're unable to gather any useful info on him. Apparently he was frequenting extremists websites.
