I had every intention of going last year when Neil Young and Crazy Horse were originally supposed to play, but after they backed out I changed my mind.  Apparently they individually searched every vehicle in great detail and it created one of the worst traffic jams in the area in recent memory.  I mean people were moving like 5 feet in 3 hours (no joke) so I hope they improve that process somehow.

Didn't hear about that - ugh.

Supposedly a real s*%$-show last year.  First year of the festival.  They've promised to improve things this year.  Given that this is a Peter Shapiro production, I have a high degree of confidence they will.

Hopscotch is also September 4th-7th. Right down the road in Raleigh. They were booked a few years ago (if what I've heard is true) but had to back out and The Flaming Lips replaced them. I wonder if they'll play this festival one night and come down and headline Friday or Saturday night in Raleigh. Great festival...first 120 acts are going to be announced next week.

They're playing 2 nights at Lockn', but I don't know which two.

WOW!!! This makes me hopeful that maybe we'll see some 20th Anniversary shows elsewhere this year too.
I have an old friend in Baltimore I could stay with (he went to Solid Sound last year- big Wilco fan & a great guitarist too), & The Allman Brothers are playing this too...but...
My main concern is, with it being a Festival, how long will their sets be? If I knew that they were headlining both of the two nights & what the set lengths were I'd certainly consider it. Has anyone ever been to this before? Any ideas on how many stages & what the set lengths are?
Set length varies wildly with any given Fest- at Nelsonville last year, though it was shortened by the weather, they were set to play their full set (2 hrs. & 15 min. give or take...), while, as the headliner, they only did 75-90 min. when I saw them at a Fest near Philly.
My finances are way more limited this year. And I'm gonna have to wait & see with this one, but how exciting!!

VERY promising info from the official website FAQ-
"Music: When does the music start/end each day?

In 2013, the music started at 4pm on Thursday, and between 12 and 1pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The main stages finished up between 11pm and 1am each night. There are late night acoustic sets on the Campground "Triangle" Stage on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. 2014 will bring some additional musical surprises..."

Has anyone here actually gone to this, & do you know any details about how long bands usually play etc. I just wish I knew if they were headlining. They are the only band, so far, that's playing two nights!!

The way this whole festival was promoted last year (it's first) was that you would get a full, normal show from every band and that the stage setup would be so that one band would start as soon as another one stopped, therefore "interlocking" (get it?).  I know The Black Crowes played two nights last year and put on a normal show from what I remember of the setlists.  It encourages camping and the location means there's not any strict curfews or anything (as far as I know).

This was the lineup last year in reverse order each day:

Thursday, Sept. 5

The String Cheese Incident

Gov’t Mule

Warren Haynes Band

Keller & the Keels

Friday, Sept. 6

Further featuring Phil Lesh and Bob Weir

The Zac Brown Incident

The String Cheese Incident

Jimmy Cliff

Founding Fathers

Saturday, Sept. 7

Neil Young & Crazy Horse

Further featuring Phil Lesh & Bob Weir play Workingman’s Dead and more

Widespread Panic

with John Fogerty sitting in

The Black Crowes

Punch Brothers

Pegi Young & The Survivors

Love Canon

Sunday, Sept. 8

Further featuring Phil Lesh and Bob Weir

Widespread Panic

The Black Crowes

Tedeschi Trucks Band

Hackensaw Boys

If I were to guess, if no other "big" acts are announced, I'm thinking Wilco could close out at least one night but it really depends on who is committed to what day(s).  I know Phil Lesh is also playing two nights.  Also, Steve Winwood's performance is sitting in with Widespread Panic.

I seriously doubt they are headlining, against Phil and Friends and Widespread (both of whom are playing 2x) and the Allmans.  I assume they will be a lead-in time slot, and a festival length set of 90 minutes maybe?  Just my assumptions.  But I'd really fall over if they were headlining.  No way.

Well again, it really comes down to who they have scheduled each day. SCI headlined Thursday last year so if they really stacked the weekend days and if Wilco happens to be Thursday and Friday, then I could see them headlining Thursday.

I was there last year. Each band played a full-length set (2 hours or close to it). It really didn't matter who "headlined". I don't remember the last band of the day getting significantly more time than than the ones that came before.  Some sets earlier in the day were a bit shorter, 90 minutes or so.  The stages are side by side, so the next band started playing within a minute or two of the last one ending.  NO OVERLAPPING SETS!  You won't miss a bit of music once you're on the music field.

I'll say this now and I'll say this again, and again: You'll regret not bringing your bike.

I'm not quite sure what to make of the set lists here, since there's lot of potential longer jam workouts...and there's a couple with set lists going into the high teens or low twenty's as well...but some 12 song sets that appear to be shorter. I'm not quite sure where this would leave Wilco as far as set length...

Another interesting aspect is what might ensue cross pollination wise. They've certainly played with Bob Weir & Warren Haynes before- though Derek Trucks, Willie Nelson & Steve Winwood are all enticing possibilities too- depending on who's there & when (& as more acts get added, who else is there)...but the Spirit they embodied during the AmericanaramA tour was certainly one of fellowship, collaboration, adventure & experimentation...and I think that's just something that can be said of them period- so who knows what could happen at anyone's set with the Wilco gang about?

Here's whatever set lists there are for the last one...anyone can sort of deduce on their own- assuming they follow last year's model...

This is good, specific info to have from one who was there. Why a bike, though? My plan is to stay with friends in Charlottesville and drive to and from each day. (Unless more friends get together and we look for a house closer to the fest.) Any suggestions?
