So,  not surprising. That 80s fb page (and the 90s group page) is a pain in the ass with everybody posting about their rejection letters and how devastated they are. Assume, if you mail ordered (and maybe even if yoy didn't), that you will be denied. Gonna be a clusterfuck scene in CHI, anyway.

It appears that folks who mailed in for all 3 days were DENIED.

I think I'm gonna be out of town that weekend of the shows....if I was in town, I'd be going to see the Meat Puppets who have a show scheduled.

MPs!

My wife and I wavered on going (waaaaay more her desire to go than mine, she's too young to have seen the GD) and opted for a vacation, instead. Even if we had mailordered, slim chance of getting tix anyway. Just too many factors say "no".

Too young to see the Dead? You randy ol' stud you!

Well, maybe not "too" young, but she was 15 in '95. Guess I was 14 at my first Dead show. Either way, too many factors for these to happen for us. Hope they do a stream/webcast. I've only heard, so far, of theaters being the only options. I'm not sitting in a theater for a show.....

I had fun at theater Grateful Dead movie nights -- lots of dancing and other stuff going on. I wouldn't say it was a free for all, but nobody was bothered by staff/security. Knowing me - I would end up just staying home, too, though.

My friend is going to set up a screen outdoors and we're going to watch it from her pool.

See that's the right idea, but I don't think they have announced a simulcast yet, just a few theater events. At least last time I heard, which was a week or so ago.

Dancing in a pool can be a fun challenge, too. It'd work really well for, like, Stella Blue.

They'll make a fortune with a simulcast, so I can't see them not doing it. I am sure the city/union will take large chunk of the revenue, but I am sure there will be plenty to go around.

Who wants to go to a movie theater 3 nights in a row, especially if you've got kids. BOOO!!!!

Having kids might be the reason why I would want to catch one of the shows in a theater...Of course they are 3 and 5 --- I guess if you have kids and they want to see it too, it could get pricey.

Peter Shapiro said simulcast in some article, mentioning his clubs would be open to view the shows. From that people are assuming simulcast to mean it will be shown in movie theaters, as has been done with past concert, or clubs. Sure sounds different from webcast or PPV. I had hopes that AXS TV would be showing the concerts, as they were the original presale vendor, and they show tons of concerts. But now that the presale was cancelled, that seems unlikely.

I just can't imagine them not streaming the show and charging for it - of course the City of Chicago Park District, who owns Soldier Field may not allow it or charge too much for the privilege, thus making it not feasible from a financial point.

The more I think about this, the more I see the 50th as just hype.  It's not like these dudes have never played before together in any combination since Jerry died.  It's also not like Trey has never played with them.  The hype really seems to be selling it and the marketing is genius with all these articles on mail ordering and getting us all talking about webcasts.  Not to mention the whole, 'this is the end of the long strange trip' (with a wink of course).

Interesting times.

I tend to agree about the hype.  Is there anyway that these shows could live up to the hype?  I kind of doubt it.

Who wants to go to a movie theater?

Not me. I don't even go to a movie theater to see movies!

I know this is the GD topic, not the GD cover bands topic, but JRAD uploaded this Help>Slip>Shakedown video yesterday to Russo's YouTube channel, I think it's fantastic.  These guys live up to any buzz you've heard about them.

I know Steve Silberman likes JRAD quite a bit, and he has a good set of ears.

That was in Rolling Stone (the Shapiro part). I thought I'd read somewhere about select  movie theaters, too. Maybe not.
