Jeff Tweedy - Love is the King - October 23

Recommended Posts

Anyone know anything about the cover photo? Looks like WW2 (Tunisia?) or possibly Korea? The rifle looks strange - photoshopped as dropped from the hand?

This is one of a series of photographs Capa took during World War II as Allied forces opened a front in Tunisia in an effort to liberate Italy from Fascism.

I went through all of the songs performed on The Tweedy Show that didn’t find a home on Love Is The King and not one had the lyrics or any mention of Susquehanna River which is the name of one of the b-sides on the bonus vinyl 7 inch. The other b-side, I’d Rather Be Alone, was played twice.

edit: I copied and pasted the song title that’s why the font size changed.

Having listened to it twice, and I really hope this comes off as positive as possible, but this album is a comfort to listen to.

Comfort is a great word to describe the album. After one listen it's right up there with Warm and Warmer for me.

I think 'comforting' is the correct word for the sound, intention and effect of this record.

Nice stuff. Tweedy solo seems to be a lot less 'challenging' to me than what Wilco creates as an ensemble, and that's just fine. I like music that's well crafted and pleasant as much as I like music that's challenging. It's nice to hear his identity as a producer and arranger continue to grow more specific. His lead guitar playing continues to provide the bit of tension these gentle ditties need to keep you guessing.

I have to say 'Natural Disaster' conjures a little too much Allman Brothers "Ramblin Man" for me, but otherwise it's a pretty flawless ride.

I haven't posted here in a few years, but just wanted to see how the discussions on this album are going.  I think it's really, really good.  The band is so tight, which is not too surprising with the family connection.  The "power lines" lyrics in Troubled caught me off guard.  I was thinking "I recognize those words..." and re-listened to Ode to Joy and found them in the last song.

I love this record, but I feel like Whisper would have fit perfectly on here. Anyone out there throw it into the running order?

An early favorite is a tie between Natural Disaster and Half-Asleep closely followed by Opaline.

The production is phenomenal! It has the feel of a record that will be easy to replicate live, but will never quite capture that studio magic. That thought should only be viewed as a credit to the top notch production of Jeff & Tom Schick.

Here’s the link to the CBS Saturday Morning interview & 3 performances from The Hideout. Check the interview segment to see if your client comments made it to air. 😉Lol

I’m sure everyone knows by now, but Jeff will be on Colbert on Monday evening.

Yes!  It sounds very live but still pristine quality.  Some parts remind me of Neil’s Harvest and other parts feel like some 50s country band. The music feels so real and it has depth.

I watched the broadcast on Monday evening and I couldn’t tell that any cuts were made, so I was stunned to find that the entire interview ran almost twice as long. Colbert needs to give his editors a raise, especially with the limited camera angles which is pretty much what you see above. Very easy to make cuts when you have audience reaction shots to cut to. Ok. Enough about the editing. This was a great interview and a pleasant surprise, since I was just expecting a performance. They put Guess Again from the Drive-In show on CBS.com as a little bonus.
