  1. And speaking of bad-ass hip-hop tracks, for those that haven't heard this, it's the new Killer Mike. You may remember him from his verse on Outkast's "The Whole World": "glitter, glisten, gloss, floss, I catch a beat runnin like Randy Moss". That's Killer Mike. Here's his new cut that's got everybody talkin: That's Life.
  2. Nice to see so much love for the B-Boys, Tribe, De La and P.E. on these lists - that "backpack rap" era of hip-hop from '89-'93 produced some of my favorites: 10. The Predator - Ice Cube 9. The Score - Fugees 8. Paul's Boutique - Beastie Boys 7. Criminal Minded - KRS-One 6. De La Soul is Dead - De La Soul 5. Illmatic - Nas 4. Ready to Die - Biggie 3. Low End Theory - Tribe Called Quest 2. Fear of a Black Planet - Public Enemy 1. Stankonia - Outkast To me, Bombs Over Baghdad remains the greatest hip-hop track ever recorded (along with Slick Rick's Children 's Story and Tribe's Scenario). I
  3. here here (hear hear? I don't know. Either way I agree!)
  4. Taught to be Proud is by Tea Leaf Green - great band from San Fran.
  5. Josh Lemon Lyman > Ryan Jefferson Starship Double Album Adams
  6. I'm familiar with Scofield - I was just remarking that he's not playing with Phil on this Lesh/GRAB/Duo tour.
  7. Joan was definitely there - came out during the opening riff of Golden Road and got everybody jumping. It was also a highlight of the show to see her dancing up on Trey during his solos. I remember seeing her do the same moves on Weir a couple summers ago and Bobby looked really uncomfortable which just made Phil encourage her to do it more often. Trey, on the other hand, seemed to really enjoy it and played particularly well while Joan was sidling up next to him. She also sang lead on Rosemary, Desire and took one of the verses on I Know You Rider as I remember.
  8. This site posts new mp3s every week of good bands covering good songs and this week's pick celebrates Wilco's return to Ontario by posting this version of ISBR from the MSG New Year's show. http://www.chromewaves.net/mp3.php
  9. it's pretty much all dead tunes (see setlist above)
  10. I think they played together last sunday in Atlanta.
  11. For those on this board that are interested in such things: Phil Lesh and Friends are being supported on their summer tour by Trey Anastasio and Mike Gordon from Phish who are playing with the Benevento/Russo Duo as a fourpiece I'm calling the Ambiguously Trey Duo. Phil appeared not to have brought a proper lead guitarist with him this tour so Trey came on stage to fill in for the close of the first set through to the encore: Set I: China Cat --> Golden Road --> Jam --> Bird Song --> Bartering Lines All Along the Watchtower* Set II: Jam --> Lady with a Fan* --> Terrapi
  12. Here's a couple clips of MMJ's Bonnaroo performance: (opener) What a Wonderful Man (i blame the poor audio/video sync on the epic rockoutingness) I know Bonnaroo and Superfly release a DVD of festival highlights every year but this set deserves it's own separate release, on audio if not DVD. Spectacular.
  13. Quick add to the amazing setlist. Saw this via the Bonnaroo website also...non-stop incredibleness.
  14. I was psyched when I got tickets to this show as this is the first time I can remember Pearl Jam not selling out their entire tour in under a minute. My motivation to shell out the $50 was 1/3 liking the band's music, 1/3 the cultural legacy and 1/3 MMJ as the opener. I'm definitely not familiar with the band's entire catalogue but I was 14 when Ten dropped so the band's imprint is clearly marked upon my brain. You can see the setlist here. What's missing is what I thought was the highlight of the show and MMJ's opening set: Vedder came out with his electric guitar right before MMJ we
  15. I'm curious what people's thoughts are on the Martin DX1. Just bought it for $500. Solid spruce top, dreadnaught. I love the tone (based my purchase on which one Bob Dylan's Beard sounded best on) but I've had some purists take issue with the non-wood backing. I still love it but wondering what y'all think.
  16. I was in love with you, well-before I knew, it meant more than just wanting to be with you I used to look for other girls that looked like you But the laws of nature said,
