  1. Jesus was a Marxist. In unrelated news .... NEW YORK, Aug 30 (Reuters) - Lehman Brothers has hired Jeb Bush, brother of the President of the United States, as an advisor to its private equity business, a source familiar with the situation said. Lehman hired another relative of U.S. President George W. Bush last year--George Walker, a second cousin, who heads up the bank's asset management business. Jeb Bush is the former governor of Florida. Lehman Brothers declined to comment.
  2. The Soviets surely fucked it up, the Scandinavians got it right.
  3. agreed. But the noblesse no longer feels any oblige, as far as I can tell (unless it comes in the form of tax deductible charitable gifts).
  4. I feel pretty good about that myself, but then I'm a socialist at heart. I never minded paying taxes until the social contract was voided by these fuckers. The best thing that could happen is the repeal of the law which designated personhood for corporations. Then we could possibly return to "of, by and for" the people. Fuck agribusiness, fuck Wall Street, fuck the national security/military/industrial complex. I want my country back.
  5. Considering the deficit has grown $600 billion under Bush (from a surplus), the national debt is at $10 trillion, and McBush sees no reason to end our $2 billion/week criminal action in Iraq, we're going to have to get money from somewhere. I personally think the top 2% has had their free ride.
  6. Did I refer to anyone but those raking in a half mil a year? They certainly profited from the current lack of regulation, oversight and atmosphere of greed. Tweak all you want about my lack of sympathy for them.
  7. are you seriously suggesting I feel bad about someone losing their job after profitting from this shitstorm at the rate of a half million a year? You've got to be fucking kidding me.
  8. [quote name=Paul B' date='Sep 15 2008, 04:53 PM' post='1201549' I spoke with a couple Lehman guys today.....who pull in 500k all-in easily....and they're freaking out. good. One of the advantages of being accustomed to doing without is, well you know how to do without. Another disturbing (and little noticed) news item -- House meets in secret in March 08 -- 6th (?) time in history There are other sources out there, but this one outlines the 'leaked' info. The mainstream media gave it a pass. I'm moving to my shack.
  9. I'm sure the Fed will ride to the rescue with some freshly minted new cash. It's hard for a chronically low income type such as myself to understand the ways in which this ripples at my end of the pond, other than whatever federal obligations are laid in our laps. Seems like a case of live by the sword, die by the sword, or perhaps just karmic returns on risk. Why should I care if the investor class takes a hit? I have a pretty meager understanding of how Wall Street works. Someone enlighten me.
  10. not since they added Bill Kristol to the lineup.
  11. I couldn't decipher that, but thought it had something to do with OTSPHJ
  12. This piece is absolutely compelling on this point. The Renewed Mind is the Key It really is worth watching the whole damn thing, as painful as it is.
  13. My conscience tells me to vote in the way most likely to prevent McCain/Palin from sitting in the White House. And that means Obama, who is both far from radical and far from evil.
  14. and now, some humilitating partisan dancing
  15. Kennedy and Kruschev together resolved the crisis, despite the hawkish provocations suggested by their advisors on both sides. As far as Venezuela and Bolivia go, we don't like the fact that Chavez (hugely popular with all but the aristocratic class) has chosen to keep his country's oil profits in his own country to support their infrastructure, rather than banking it in NY. He's been a big supporter of other South American countries whose economies and popular democratic governments had been decimated by US and IMF policies. It started with the US backed coup in Argentina, because "we"
  16. I'm lovin it. Seems like most of VC has a better grasp on the Bush Doctrine than Ms. P
  17. Don't count on it. Here's a few headlines today from Black Box Voting WISCONSIN - System fails to match voter registration info for more than half of Wisconsin's chief elections officials. NEW ENGLAND - Voting machines in Connecticut, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Vermont and Maine are programmed by a single firm, LHS Associates. Connecticut report of Feb. 2008 audit results is MISSING. Univ. Connecticut discovered unchecked "duplicate memory cards" but has been unable to examine all of them, 30% of 2007 audit data missing or unusable. And the other four LHS-programmed states aren't
  18. Oprah probably just can't stomach the idea of spending an hour with her. And, so what? Aren't we entitled to know what she thinks?
  19. dig it. Obama Blasts Bush-McCain Foreign Policy
  20. I find that hard to believe. I don't know any of those wingnuts (except the few here). Of course no one I know ever admitted to voting for Reagan or Bush either.
