If I could rid the world of one tune
cryptique replied to Sir Stewart's topic in Someone Else's Song
Here's one from the alt-rock '90s: "Counting Blue Cars" by Dishwalla I hate that fucking song. The way that guys sings it makes me want to punch him in the face or something. -

What a piece of shit that is. Wasn't that from the second Karate Kid movie? -
I actually know the rest of that joke, but in the version I heard, he had two brothers.

From one Grinnellian to another, serious vibes. Very sad to hear this.

There's a lovely version that was just Jeff on acoustic guitar with a single violinist.

Despite being a big Wilco fan practically from the moment that A.M. was released (and an Uncle Tupelo fan for years before that), I never got to a show until October 25, 2002, when I saw them play at the Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor. Califone opened and were amazing. Then Wilco came on and were even more amazing. I have an audience recording of the show and still love to listen to it once in a while. Prior to that, they had played near me several times but for various reasons I couldn't go.

That one goes the opposite extreme of "Don't" -- no hits. I'm just not a Janet Jackson fan, sorry. Anyone have a "nasty" song, or should we try a different word?

There are certainly some issues with the original recording that reappear on this CD ... for example, the vocals on both versions of "Runnin' Away" still have the same little pops and clicks that are on other versions I've heard -- I think that's just a flaw of the recording. It is also a bit flat in places ... the difference with this remaster is that it's not godawfully muddy like it was on the first CD version.

Yeah, my search yielded ~230 hits, so I'll pass as well. How about "today"?

Definitely. There are just way too many songs that I would like to destroy. -
Why spend money to laugh at them, when you can laugh at them online for free?

My first memory of Powers Boothe was as Jim Jones in "Guyana Tragedy: The Story of Jim Jones." He was also Phillip Marlowe in what I think was an '80s HBO series. Most importantly, he was in "Red Dawn."

I have the old CD, and it pretty much sucks. That said, I haven't bothered to listen to it in a very long time (because of its suckitude), so it'd be hard to describe specific differences. I will only say that this new version sounds very, very good -- at least to my ears. I'm listening in high-quality headphones, and it's not disappointing me in the least.

It's been pointed out that VT is, to a large extent, a commuter campus (something like 11,000 people come from off-campus each day). How do you reach 11,000 people who live off campus? The task may have been monumental, but I still have to question the decision not to at least try to do something to secure the campus after the dorm shooting. Heck, when there's a shooting in Detroit (i.e., every day), they cordon off whole neighborhoods ASAP while they look for the shooter. They couldn't do that here? I'll refrain from further comment, because I simply don't know enough about the circumstan

Yes, yes, and HELL yes. -
The article Lammy linked to says they've now linked one gun to both crime scenes, so it sounds like it was just one shooter after all.
