  1. abcnews.com puts the toll at 25 and indicates that the number is "expected to rise."
  2. I saw those initial reports too -- probably just from the first shooting scene. At the time they hadn't caught the shooter ... apparently he(?) had bigger plans. Sickening.
  3. article Chief: At least 20 dead in campus shootings POSTED: 12:32 p.m. EDT, April 16, 2007 (CNN) -- The Virginia Tech Police Chief said at least 20 people were killed in twin shootings on the Blacksburg campus Monday morning. "Some victims were shot in a classroom," Chief Wendell Flinchum said, adding that the gunman was dead. President Charles Steger called the shootings "a tragedy of monumental proportions." A hospital spokeswoman told The Associated Press that 17 Virginia Tech students were being treated for gunshot wounds and other injuries. Sharon Honaker at the Carilion New
  4. Welcome to the board, Romeo, and good to hear that the show lived up to (or exceeded?) expectations! Just FYI, Wilcobase tracks live performances of songs (among other valuable public services), and lists "Walken" as being first performed in September of 2005. There's no listing yet for "Hate It Here," though, so indeed you may have witnessed its maiden voyage. I don't know about anyone else, but I'd love to see video. YouTube, perhaps?
  5. This is just my opinion, but you might want to change your thesis a bit, because what you just wrote completely negates it. If the law says it's illegal, then like big parm said, it's illegal. Instead, you may want to come from a slightly different angle: for example, why you feel that its illegality is self-defeating for the music industry. Also, you will want to avoid using the term "piracy," as that connotes lawlessness. Stick to phrases like "peer-to-peer downloading" or "music sharing."
  6. Finally getting my first chance to listen.
  7. Remember when William "Refrigerator" Perry seemed so big? These days he'd be closer to average.

  9. It's chock-full of great stuff, but I would tend to disqualify it for the horrendous remix of "Buffalo Soldier."
  10. Piling on the thanks, Warner -- you rock.
  11. I probably have fewer than ten such packages in my collection. I'm more of a buy-everything kind of fan.
  12. Aside from people on this list, I know of fewer than five people who've even heard of Wilco.* When we got back from the Tweedy LR show last month, the only bummer was that there wasn't anyone I could talk to around here who would even understand how cool that evening was. The one exception: the young woman at the frame shop where I took our posters knew exactly who Tweedy is, and when one of her co-workers asked her "who's that?" she said "You've heard him before -- we sometimes play his stuff here in the shop." That restored a little of my faith in humanity. All of that to say, no,
  13. I am currently mired in last place of teh VC league. My boys have all decided to start slowly this year. Yesterday my batters were a sizzling 3 for 26 with one RBI.
  14. Cool. How did the new songs sound?
  15. Hard to top this, really ... though Al up there (one post above) comes close.
  16. Haven't we done this thread a couple billion times already?
  17. The problem with Fox is that they pretend to be "fair and balanced" when they so obviously aren't. Salon is unabashedly liberal, but they also call bullshit on lefties pretty often. For being liberal, they're actually pretty balanced. That said, I've been disappointed in their coverage of this particular story.
  18. It looks like they haven't learned from the mistakes of new Comiskey, at least in terms of how their upper deck will sit. Also: seriously, an open-air park? I know they had one before the Humpdome, but I guess I expected them to go with some kind of roof.
