Apparently, the world is coming to an end today...
cryptique replied to Dude's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
If the world is going to end today, I wish it would hurry up, because I'd rather not go to my 1 PM meeting. -
1. First Concert, when? Robert Plant, 8/27/83 2. First Concert you really wanted to go to and did? See #1 3. Favorite Band? Beatles 4. How Many Times have you seen them? Zero (they stopped playing live shows two years before I was born) 5. Worst concert you attended? Shannon Wright, Schuba's, Chicago, circa 2000. She was absolutely horrid. I went to the show because I loved her old band Crowsdell, but her solo thing was intolerable and we walked out after a few songs. That said, the opening band was great (The Waxwings). 6. Favorite? Hard to pick one. Elvis Costello & The Attract

IMDb lists Tina Louise as 5'8½" and Isla Fisher as 5'3".

That would be just fine with me.

Hatching a plan to kidnap someone, or just curious?

Just dragged this one out again... These guys should be much better known. Pure pop goodness from France, produced by Jon Auer and Ken Stringfellow.
-
It should also be noted here that Jon Auer is a full-fledged guitar god.

I like the new policy in principle, but I'd have to agree with this ^ ^.

Nope:

Might want to wait 'til the end of the show, if they've been booting people out at other shows.

*cough* $12,000 for the entry-level model *hack* *gag* Doesn't include shipping from Japan or import duty.

I've been digging this at least as much as any of his other post-Tyranny of Distance records.

Enforcement will likely vary from venue to venue. It'll be interesting to hear whether they really can prevent people from taking shitty cellphone photos. My question is why anyone even wants to take shitty cellphone photos. You're at a show -- enjoy it, and remember it with your brain, not some poorly framed, shaky, improperly exposed, quasi-photographic memento. "...and this is a blurry picture of Jeff, and this is a blurry picture of Nels, and..."

The denizens of this board didn't catch up to this one until pretty recently for reasons unknown (or maybe because no one posted it in this thread until the last couple of months, at which point everyone checked it out). It's just a quirk of timing. If someone posted about a great overlooked album from, say, 1997, and everyone checked it out and began listening to it obsessively, someone who hadn't been following this thread might be pretty confused by all the love for a 13-year-old record. Same thing here, just with a smaller time shift. I think North Hills is easily the equal of Sky Blue S

Playing that one again myself. I don't know if it's been mentioned here, but Pat Sansone gets a shout-out in the liner notes.

I'm not sure they have two years. But we'll see. Nice warm sound of vinyl aside, CDs are still an excellent means of storing and playing back music, and their small size and portability will keep them in the game for quite some time. I love vinyl, but its analog nature renders it susceptible to the accumulation of flaws over time that degrade the quality of playback. The typical CD, as long as it's returned to its package after use, suffers no such degradation. That alone makes the CD a survivor, at least versus vinyl and magnetic tape.

Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward = She & Him
cryptique replied to Vacant Horizon's topic in Someone Else's Song
Has Zooey learned how to sing yet? -
Good to see that Charlie Davies' recovery has been ahead of schedule, and that he's due to resume training with his French club this week. If he can get back to match fitness in time to be added to the U.S. World Cup squad, he's likely to be quite an asset.

All part of our dastardly plan. Though I must admit, I found out about that record here, too. Played it twice today myself. NP: He played one HELL of a show here Thursday evening. If you get the chance, go see him. (Though for you Chicago folks, you just missed him.)

I figured this would probably happen. Jon and Ken have handled a lot of the lead vocals over the years anyway. It'll still be a heck of a show, though obviously not the same without Alex.
