  1. This may not be particularly helpful, but I'll mention it anyway ... my brother lives in Hyattsville. That's not between College Park and Hanover, but it's pretty close to College Park. My sister-in-law had been driving from Hyattsville out to Laurel for a job a while ago, though I don't think she's doing that anymore. I could ask her about that commute, though. I don't remember them saying anything negative about Hyattsville -- they seem to like it. And they're within walking distance of a Metro stop, which is a plus. Good luck with your search.
  2. I wish I could go to this. link Pee-wee Herman to return after 20 years Comedian Paul Reubens will bring back character for L.A. stage show Access Hollywood updated 8:20 p.m. ET, Tues., Aug 11, 2009 LOS ANGELES - After 20 years in retirement – Pee-wee Herman is back. Actor Paul Reubens is bringing back his beloved character in a stage show this coming November at the Music Box at The Fonda in Hollywood. “I’ve put part of him away for a long time, but part of him has always been here with me,” the actor told the Los Angeles Times. “I think it will be like riding a bike — which is
  3. Probably my least-favorite Wilco album, but every one of those songs is far better live.

  5. My spies tell me that all four members of the fan backing chorus are members on this here board... Sounds like it was a good time. I'd love to have gone, but I'm just too damn busy right now to drive up to Royal Oak for a show.
  6. There's a fairly large parking garage around the corner. I don't remember if it costs anything, but if it does it's not much. I've parked there for each of the shows I've seen at that venue. If I recall correctly, it's just west and north of the venue, maybe a block away. I think there may also be street parking possibilities in the neighborhood to the west, but I haven't tried that.
  7. I hope Geico was able to provide a loaner wienermobile until this one's fixed.
  8. There's never been anyone like him. He set a standard that will never be matched. RIP.
  9. I'd love to hear Bob Mould's extended, feedback-drenched version.
  10. It'd be much cooler if these were actually happening in the subway.
  11. In your opinion, of course. There are a lot of people, myself among them, who would argue that it's no better than their fifth best album.
  12. I kept giving them a chance because they were so good in the beginning that I really didn't want to believe that they could be so bad once they jumped to a major label (and the decline started even before then, on Document). They had a few moments post-Lifes Rich Pageant, but none that I consider to be essential. Not even Automatic For The People. I do this with a number of bands -- remembering their glory days, yearning for something new that's up to those standards, and still eagerly anticipating new releases even after several disappointments. U2 comes to mind.
  13. I support this statement. And I've heard all the albums since LRP and seen them live.
  14. Good luck and positive get-the-job vibes.
  15. Well, that seals it. I'll buy both! Has anyone found these for sale anywhere but Amazon yet? I'm considering pre-ordering but I'd like to shop around a bit (though Amazon's usually the cheapest option, so I'll probably buy from them anyway).
  16. I don't think they ever released mono versions of those albums. If I'm right about that, I imagine that's why they're not included here. They can price this one higher because it's a "niche" product that a lot of people have been waiting for. It's not really for the casual fan, and those who want it will probably be willing to pay more for it. I'm thinking of buying both, though that'll be quite a financial hit.
  17. You have to admit, some of those stereo mixes are pretty weird. I know there are a lot of people who regard the mono mixes as the "true" mixes, but on that subject I'll happily defer to someone who knows more about the mono vs. stereo debate.
  18. I would extend that through Lifes Rich Pageant but no further.
  19. There are plenty of other threads on this board that you could be reading.
  20. Welcome to the wonderful world of analog sound reproduction.
  21. AGIB has just never connected with me, or I with it. There's not a single song on there that I absolutely love, and several that I really don't care about (but they're Wilco, so I still listen to them occasionally). I've warmed up to it, slightly, over the last year or so, but only after SBS seemed to put it in perspective a bit. As for SBS, there are two songs that I don't really care for ("Walken" and "What Light"), but I love the rest.
  22. In my humble opinion, ranking Out of Time, Green, and Up above YHF is cause to question your sanity. I disagree with ranking the rest of that stuff above YHF too, but I could at least understand it in most cases.
  23. Fables of the Reconstruction was released in June (of '85). Just saying.
  24. This is your opinion, and I disagree with it vehemently. I'll take the first four R.E.M. albums over everything Wilco has done except Yankee Hotel Foxtrot and Being There. To answer the original question ... my opinion: 1. SBS 2. AGIB 3. 4. W(TA) 5. 6. 7. 8. Reveal 9. Accelerate 10. Around The Sun I have little use for recent R.E.M., as you can see.
