  1. A local Ann Arbor station has played "You And I" once or twice while I've been listening.
  2. She wasn't persuaded by seeing Thompson live? He's fucking amazing live! "Keeper"
  3. I won't be able to make this one. Conflicts with some stuff that, believe it or not, is more important. Have fun, those who do go.
  4. FYI, you could turn that off. There was an "X" or something that you could click and it went away, replaced by a tiny little tab that you could click to make it reappear. I only mention this in case it reappears sometime.
  5. ...which only serves to prove my point.
  6. Then you shouldn't have brought it up in the first place. And they also had the right to be mad about the lawsuit. It's not hypocrisy to be mad that Jay sued Jeff, and then be sad that Jay died.
  7. I hope a record store clerk says something like that to me someday.
  8. Dunno, I barely use PayPal these days, and only as a buyer.
  9. Count me in for fundage when y'all settle on a way to collect it.
  10. I hadn't even noticed it was gone. Good riddance!
  11. Yeah, but everyone thinks Wilco should come to their town, and they simply can't go to every town where people want them to play. If you don't want to drive 2-4 hours, that's on you, not them. Wilco played Indio in 2005, San Diego in 2002, and Solana Beach in 1999, so it's not like they've never played near San Diego. Add over a dozen L.A.-area shows over the years, and Wilco's been within 2-4 hours of San Diego a lot more often than they have with most other parts of the country.
  12. This is good to hear. In the late '80s it was a cultural wasteland. Or sure seemed to be -- we never found any compelling reason to go to Des Moines except for occasional visits to Taste of Thailand, which at the time was probably the only Thai restaurant in the state (and had a great beer list).
  13. "Ribbons" I've been using Office 2007 for over a year now, and the ribbons still mess me up, though I've gotten much more accustomed to them. I know how to find stuff that I use on an everyday basis, but on the occasions where I need to find a function that I rarely use, I'm often stumped. All I can say is, fill your Quick Access Toolbar with all the stuff you use regularly. Makes life much simpler.
  14. This is a band that played shows last year in such B.F.E. towns as Fargo, Bozeman, Missoula, Fairbanks, and Anchorage. They can't play everywhere. They're doing the best they can, and far better than most bands ever do. 2-4 hours ain't nothin'. You'll get no sympathy from me.
  15. Yup, that happened to me again today. Dear Invision, please get your shit together and soon, love, cryptique.
  16. And another thing: information about what forums/threads I've read does not appear to be saved online -- perhaps only locally, and specific to the browser? I just logged in using IE7 and the whole board is unread (again). I noticed this yesterday when I got home from work -- I had to mark everything read at home. Needless to say, this is a major pain in the ass. Invision has a lot to clean up before this leaves beta.
  17. One weird thing I just noticed: at least on Firefox 3, this new version doesn't seem to want to display more than one set of formatting tags. If you want to make a chunk of text bold and italic, you can have one but not the other. This is bold and italic, but it's not (or maybe it is in another browser) This is the same but I clicked the buttons in opposite order It takes whichever tag is most deeply nested and ignores the rest. edit: I'm looking at it in IE7 right now, and it doesn't work with this browser either.
  18. Not a review, but Entertainment Weekly lists the album among their "20 CDs We Can't Wait to Hear." WILCO Wilco (the album) Release date: June 30 When it comes to titles, Jeff Tweedy is in a utilitarian mood: Wilco (the album) opens with "Wilco (the song)." More accurate? Calling the set A Wilco Album With the Mellowness of 'Sky Blue Sky' and the Experimentation of 'A Ghost Is Born.'
  19. I'm very much interested in Windows 7, but haven't had a chance to get anywhere near it yet. I'm hoping it will see a full release (and then a service pack or two) by the time I have to replace my WinXP home machine, so I never have to use Vista on a regular basis. I've only had to log onto a Vista machine on a handful of occasions at work, and I'll be quite happy to skip that OS altogether if I can. As for a Mac vs. PC thread ... don't bother. I've already reached my quota for being told to "buy a Mac" this year. That cult doesn't need another platform.
  20. Yup. I really like Winamp, but I use "classic" skins -- I don't like the newer generation of them.
  21. I did live there for four years. There are a few things to do in Iowa City, but Des Moines is duller than dirt. Of course, it's been nearly twenty years, so maybe that state got a life in the meantime.
  22. Wow, I didn't know there was still a Gluek's. My brother has collected beer cans for over thirty years, and in the early days he got hold of a bunch of these: Looks to be the same company.
  23. I don't care if it goes or stays, but the button cracks me up, because clicking it seems like the equivalent of saying "don't go there."
  24. I have to say, I like this so far. Of course, there are still some bugs which I imagine are Invision issues that will get worked out eventually (this is a beta, right?). I'm one of these anal people who likes to keep my board tidy in terms of marking stuff read, and the features for doing this are currently horrendous. The only thing I've found that works with any consistency is to open a forum and click the "Mark this forum as read" link at the right end of the forum's title bar. None of the other methods of marking stuff as read -- including reading the actual posts -- seems to work. Als
