I understand all that. What I don't understand is why they are allowed to advertise a 298 GB drive as a 320 GB drive, when it never did and never will have 320 GB of capacity. Call it a 298 GB drive instead, and everyone's happy.

There shouldn't be much crackling with a new piece of 180-gram audiophile vinyl, but if it's been damaged, then it's not unreasonable that you'd hear crackling. But my guess is that it's not a vinyl issue. It could be your turntable. The most likely non-vinyl culprit is probably your stylus. It could be dirty or damaged. There could also be a loose connection somewhere, or any number of other issues. It's pretty finicky technology. If you decide to clean your stylus, do some reading first -- it's not necessarily as simple a process as you might think, and they make a special brush for that

I've bought a couple of external drives over the years, but I'm hardly an expert. I currently have a 320 GB Seagate Free Agent Desktop drive. No problems with it so far, and I've had it for over two years. Be aware that just because the box says 500 GB, or 750 GB, or whatever, that doesn't mean you'll actually get that amount of storage. They're always quite a bit short of that. My 320 GB drive only has 298 GB of real capacity. Why they can label drives with capacity numbers that they don't actually possess, I don't pretend to understand.

Favorite and least favorite Wilco songs by album
cryptique replied to yankhotelfox's topic in Just A Fan
Huh. Guess I never put my two cents in on this one. I did this quickly so as not to overanalyze. The only difficulties I encountered were that I don't really have a least favorite song on YHF, and I don't really have a favorite song on AGIB. And I imagine I'll catch hell from a few people for my dissing of "Bull Black Nova," but I really have no use for it. AM: Should've Been In Love > Dash 7 BT: Say You Miss Me > Kingpin ST: Via Chicago > My Darling YHF: Pot Kettle Black > Heavy Metal Drummer AGIB: Muzzle of Bees > I'm A Wheel SBS: You Are My Face > What Light W(TA): One -
Makes sense. Someone told me how to make it years ago but I never wrote it down. Yeah, and from what I've read, making it rather poorly.

Wikipedia indicates that the real person behind Oscar Mayer died in 1955. tugmoose, who the hell are you talking about, anyway? Or is this just your next attempt at a "Why can't presidents produce sons" thread...

Not to mention that millions of kids wished they were his wiener, which is just creepy.

See if you can find an old Discwasher (and some D4 liquid) on eBay or somewhere. Some other company is producing this product now, but I've read that the updated version is horrible. If you can find a 20-year-old Discwasher, pick it up. The liquid can be replicated with common household materials, if I recall correctly.

Correct -- Jones produced and played various instruments. It also features some interesting guests, including Jon Brion, Gillian Welch, David Rawlings, Benmont Tench, Pete Thomas, Sebastian Steinberg, Greg Leisz, Ronnie McCoury, and her Nickel Creek bandmates.

Also, on her new album she covers a John Hartford song that mentions Pekin. So there's that. Good album, by the way.

How Lance Armstrong prepares for the Tour de France
cryptique replied to magcat's topic in Just A Fan
I am not cheering for Lance. I think there are at least two better riders on his team, and they should not defer to him just because he's the big media story. I'm hoping Contador and Leipheimer both leave him in the dust as they get into the mountains, and maybe Klöden too. As for today, it's all about team. Astana and Columbia ought to have quite a battle, maybe SaxoBank too. -
This is all kinds of fucked up. RIP, Steve.

1. Yankee Hotel Foxtrot 2. Being There 3. Summerteeth 4. Sky Blue Sky 5. A.M. 6. A Ghost Is Born 7. Wilco (The Album) 1 & 2 are interchangeable depending on my mood, as are 5 & 6, but this is how I would rank them if I were carving this in stone. I dislike "What Light" and "Walken" from SBS, but I love the rest of it and will defend it as a worthy member of the Wilco catalog. I did not always feel this way, but that album has grown on me considerably over the last couple of years, with the exception of the two aforementioned tunes. I think a lot of people have unfairly dismissed ge

I didn't even have to click that link to know it was Pat. But SITA is right -- Prince wins, hands down.

How Lance Armstrong prepares for the Tour de France

What flavor is that Kool-Aid? -
At least that song had some melody to it. I'm tired of one-note verses. That's also part of the reason I'm not as in love with "Bull Black Nova" as most people seem to be.

They should release the album on reel-to-reel instead. That would truly rule.

How Lance Armstrong prepares for the Tour de France
cryptique replied to magcat's topic in Just A Fan
For the record, Armstrong's still 37, and Favre is still 39. I originally associated Favre and Armstrong because they're two guys who really should have stayed retired, in my opinion. Both still have enough skills to compete, but both have managed to tarnish their own legacies in their respective sports, and haven't exactly been welcomed back with open arms (despite what the media want you to believe). -
I like the arrangement -- sonically, that would be an interesting direction for this band to go in -- but from a songwriting perspective, this ain't much.

Seriously. He and Brett Favre should get a place together. One could argue that Armstrong is not even the third best rider on his team this year. -
If your real, in-person self is anywhere near as petulant as your anonymous online persona, you must get punched in the face a lot. Wendy raises the most important point here. Wilco's pass through southern California will not be their last while touring on this album. Have some goddamned patience.

Isn't that what they used to use as the main URL?
