  1. I put the LR Baggs M1 Active on my Santa Cruz 000 about a year ago and have been extremely pleased. The guys at the local guitar store were trying to talk me into the B-Band (which I have hear good things about) but no regrets on the Baggs at all. Just a very pure sound -- not tinny. I have played through a PA and through an amp, both with good results.
  2. I concur. I picked up a '71 Fender Vibro Champ Silverface last week and love it. All original except the tubes for $450 -- mint condition. I also got a Maxon overdrive pedal to play through it (same cicuitry as the old Tube Screamers from what I understand.) I don't live in an apartment, but I play it upstairs while the wife and kids are sleeping below, and I have had no complaints thus far! It really is a great sounding amp, and I think Oceanman is right -- for the price these things are a diamond in the rough -- I would expect them to hold/increase in value over time.
  3. "Kamera" at Longhorn Steakhouse in Savannah last week
  4. Of six times seeing the band, last night took the cake. Song selection and the overall energy and cohesiveness of the band were unmatched. Going tonight, and I know there is speculation that they owe Charleston a "special" show to make up for the SNL switch, but Jax last night will be hard to match. Highlights: Was I, Blood of the Lamb opener Remember the Mtn Bed Can't Stand It It's just That Simple Misunderstood ...all firsts for me...what a night!
  5. He does. And as with his guitar playing (especially his acoustic finger picking,) I think his skills are vastly underrated. What key harp are you using on She's A Jar, G?
  6. Got good seats for Fla Theatre. I'll echo the previous sentiment -- it is definitely a great venue. See you guys in Jax.
  7. Got on there right at 10:00 and the seats that were coming up were close (Rows A-E) but they were seats 1 & 2 which are on the far sides. Tried again about 10:15 and got row P, sec 200, seats 13 & 14 -- center aisle! Very excited. I was 2nd row but far right and smack in front of the speakers in 2006. Looking forward to improved perspective and sound -- great venue.
  8. Has anyone noticed a good strategy on getting good seats? It seems that at times when I have purchased tickets from Wilcoworld the moment the presale happens, I often end up in the front few rows, but way off to one side. It has seemd to me that some better (more centered) seats have gone to folks who purchased during the regular sale. Any thougts or ideas on this? Does the venue only release certain sections for the presale (not necessarily the best seats,) or is it just random? Thanks.
  9. I'll be there from Savannah. Good venue. Crowd was so-so a couple of years back. Definitely looking forward to a "Get me out of FLA" encore!
  10. A new wrinkle...the guys at my local guitar shop here in Savannah (who I respect; these guys are working mucisians, not cheesy mega-store salesmen) are raving about the B-Band pick up. It has the built in pre-amp and a control for both volume and tone. One guy is using it on a Santa Cruz OM pre-war and another on a vintage J45. There is an under bridge and under saddle pick up -- nothing in the soundhole. They swear it is the most "acoustic" sounding pick up out there, and great for direct through the PA playing. I had gone in there ready to go with the Baggs M1A, and now it's back to the
  11. Thanks jtrollmann. Yeah, the volume control is a feature I think I would like to have.
  12. That was my line of thinking as well -- that there is not enough difference in sound quality to warrant the investment into a passive pickup plus a nice preamp. That's also good to know that the battery life for the preamp is so long. Thanks very much for chiming in.
  13. Thanks for your thoughts. Yeah the idea of possibly damaging the guitar has been one of the reasons I have put off doing this for some time. The guitar itself was a pretty big investment for me, and I'm a litle nervous about doing anything to tamper with the integrity of the instrument. Your point about a mic being the only way to really amplify the true acoustic sound is a valid one; like you said, the pickup is a matter of convenience which is what I need. Thanks.
  14. I am currently looking at getting either the L.R. Baggs M1 Active or Passive pick-up on my Santa Cruz 000-12. Do any of you have any experience with one or the other, or can you offer an opinion on which way to go? As I understand it, the active pick-up has its own preamp and volume control whereas the passive has no preamp. I am looking for a mic'd sound -- i.e. no effects but a close representation of the guitar played acoustically. I guess with the passive it could still be played through a PA or through an amplifier, but it would sound better going through a preamp as well -- is this r
  15. Congrats. That's a great looking guitar. I got the very similar 000-15 about a year ago and love it. Plays so easily and has such a warm and punchy tone. Enjoy.
  16. I think the album version is capo 4, but this transcription certainly works as a solo arrangement. Thanks for posting it. I, too, have never heard the solo version but would love to. Great song.
  17. Great info. Thanks to all of you. I like that a lot of the MIJ reissues come with the Bigsby.
  18. Anybody have any experience good or bad with any of the Made in Japan Telecasters? Obviously the price is good, but I was wondering if there was a big trade off in quality. Thanks in advance for any feedback...
  19. Preach on Ellsworth. I feel the same way. My hotel accommodations and our arrangements for childcare can be changed/rescheduled. One of my biggest disappointments is not catching the band with the momentum coming off last week's residency. I am definitely excited about SNL, but at the same time feel a little betrayed. I guess looking at things from a reasonable perspective, it is probably borderline unhealthy how much my wife and I look forward to each Wilco show (starting from the day after the most recent one.) Looking forward to August 7th...
  20. spiders and gun are both great solo
  21. How is this possible? Have these people been even remotely tuned in to what has been taking place in Chicago during the last week?
  22. did a link for the night 3 download ever get posted?
