  1. Then again, I might be totally wrong. Obama is a human Rorschach Test.
  2. It's funny because this was the part of his speech that moved me. I interpreted it as a "power to the people" message, and perhaps a subtle rebuke to people who are waiting for a leader to rescue them.

    Grammys

Danny's brother-in-law can dish with the best of them, too. I'm sure he'll have lots of new material for the Riv shows.
  4. Dare to hope, my friends. Even the Bush administration can't take that away from you.
  5. I don't know how many of you watch The Fifth Estate on CBC, but I heard about this on the radio as I was driving to work this morning. http://www.cbc.ca/fifth/ According to the researchers, Benoit's brain was the most damaged of all the brains they examined, and it contained the same abnormal protein that was associated with suicide.
  6. Of course it doesn't matter what I think, but I admit to being dazzled by Obama until I read this.
  7. As the Buddhists say, desire leads to suffering. ... And few understand this noble truth better than hardcore Neil Young fans.
  8. Medical marijuana vending machines take root in LA My favourite quote from the article:
  9. I really love San Francisco. It's the only US city where I feel instantly at home. Maybe because it's the most "Canadian." Or something. Although I'm definitely a west coast girl at heart, I do have a soft spot for Chicago. I love the architecture and the friendly, working class charm of the place. Maybe it's my Midwestern roots (my grandfather was born in Morning Sun, Iowa) coming through. The weather would kill me though.
  10. Believe it or not, Leonard Cohen is one of my favourite vocalists. He can convey a lot of emotion despite his limited range. I actually prefer the raspy croak to the nasal whine on his early albums.
  11. Healing }}}}} {{{{{ from the Great White North.
  12. They still love us. Deer Lake Park is a pretty cool GA venue... if it doesn't rain (in May!)
  13. I was just thinking that he might be less addicted to material wealth than most of us. I don't mean to trivialize the terrible financial loss and personal betrayal that he suffered. It's very sad. (Anyway, I hope he's touring because he wants to, not because he has to.)
  14. I was wondering about that as well. I think he does live a fairly simple life, so I suppose he could just enjoy a peaceful retirement if he really wanted to.
  15. To paraphrase Dan Savage, RTMFA! I think Neil Young needs some therapy to help him through the existential crisis that is preventing him from releasing the Archives. Is this painfully obvious to everyone but him?
  16. I remember my mom freaking out about Skylab when I was a kid. She wanted us to sleep in the basement of our house (as if that would have helped).
  17. How can I possibly follow that? *shudder* Happy birthday!
