  2. My favorite cable movie edit of all time is Winston Wolfe's altered: "let's not sucking each others popsicles yet." --Mike
  3. When I was 12, my father settled an argument my brother were having on whether or not to watch Empire Strikes Back (me) or Return of the Jedi (him) by popping a VHS copy of All You Need Is Cash he taped for Comedy Central. I watched it at least once every day from that day forward for 22 consecutive times (the streak was stopped by my mother who didn't think it was funny on the 23rd night when I kept rewinding and playing Idle's "what's it like to be such an asshole?" line. Because of the Rutles I started raiding their Beatles tapes, and because of the Beatles I began to care way too much abou
  4. It brings great joy to my heart that someone read my long-winded rant closely enough to catch that joke. --Mike
  5. Updated for the new albums. SBS: Favorite: On and On and On. Least Favorite: Shake It Off or What Light WTA: Favorite: Bull Black Nova. Least Favorite: You and I or Everlasting. --Mike
  6. What she stands for is absolutely terrifying to me, but I must admit she was the first vice-presidential candidate since Nelson Rockefeller to give me wood. --Mike
  7. If I have hooked you up with a B-side recently and you'd like to express your thanks, checking out that charity list and kicking a little donation to one of them would be highly appreciated. --Mike
  8. I knew your mix would rule and I guess there's something to be said for making these things quickly, as Pentecost Hotel and She May Call You Up Tonight were both in the running to make it on mine. --Mike
  9. Pre-post note: I made a couple digressions that broke up my argument a little too much, so in honor of David Foster Wallace, prepare for the first (or at least the second) VC post with endnotes. Two things are hurting your case. First of all you have said things along these lines before quite a bit, everyone here is a bit of a bit of broken record, but when it becomes noticeable it gets harder and harder to engage with (1.). This is small potatoes though compared to the second issue... ...I think you overshot the point you wanted to make by turning argument slightly personal in away that
  10. This sounds a bit like: If you continue to disagree with my superior opinion this entire board will lose it's relevance. Which is perhaps one of most nonsensical things this board has ever seen. Only Essox may have sounded more full of himself. --Mike
  11. Can you smoke Benadryl and Flintstone vitamins? One of the scarier realizations of my young adult life is many of the ideas I come up with sober, people assume I must have been blasted out of mind to come up with. --Mike
  12. I think I've found my album of the year, at least until the new Califone comes out. --Mike
  13. It seemed like they transferred all the vile we assumed was coming for WTA and just went off Son Volt instead. I didn't really agree with much of the review, I think this is a pretty cool record, Son Volt 2.0 (Okemah and onward) have been consistently solid. --Mike
  14. Quicksand or Roots and Crowns are excellent starting points. If you need anymore hype for this band, here's something that could have gone in the musical blasphemy you actually believe thread: Quicksand and Roots and Crowns sound like the albums I wish Wilco would have made instead of SBS and WTA. --Mike
  15. Magazine is a great song, but I don't think leaving off of YHF was a mistake. It fits well with the early demos, but the final More Like the Moon version doesn't really fit with the tracks on Foxtrot. They could have easily done the Kid A/Amnesiac thing and put out two albums from the Foxtrot session, but I can't help but think almost anyone who wants to hear those other songs can track them down on the internet. The biggest crime Wilco has ever committed was the band's infamous diamond heist in the summer of 2002. Jeff and Leroy rigged a giant claw machine (from the pieces of the one Jef
  16. If I had any musical talent and was starting a band, I'd rip off Califone at nearly every opportunity. Hard to think of a band during this decade whose sound over a series of records I have enjoyed more. --Mike
  17. She was in Nickel Creek, who covered a few Wilco songs in concert when they were still together. --Mike
  18. Holy shit! . Vibes to all involved: ESPN McNair Story --Mike
  19. No, go right ahead and make a mix. Some of us are finishing up and uploading soon, but we can keep this exchange open for a few more days so others can get in on it if they wish. --Mike
  20. As we finish up what's the best way to get these out? Should we post our tracklists in the thread, and PM everyone on the list our links? Greg, I was the last person on the block to get a CD burner when I was in high school, and I think I might be the last of my g-g-generation to actually use cassettes. I'd prefer my playlists to kind of be fluid and always changing-- I rarely keep a playlist unscathed on my ipod for longer than a couple of weeks, I'm always tweaking with different song sequences, and so tapes were a little difficult for me to manage. I'd always end up fucking up as well an
  21. Are Democrats going to register as Republicans in the 2012 primaries to make sure she gets the nod? She might be the least competent and easiest candidate to beat in a national election since George W. Bus... oh wait a minute. Yeah, going to keep that Canada plan in the back pocket. --Mike
  22. No biggie , we did have YouSendIt uploads on the actual threads in the past, but YSI uploads only lasted a week and there downloads were capped, so we could sort of control the file sharing. Mine should be done shortly. --Mike
  23. How about anything that can fit on one 80-minute disc is fair game? Also we keep saying sendspace, but if we are going to upload these, I think mediafire might be a better bet. Mediafire stores files a lot longer and generally has better download speed for free users in my experience-- but basically anything but rapidshare will suffice. And if we are uploading, do we put the mixes up on the thread or should keep it to PM's? --Mike
  24. A cover of the Beatles song? Kotche would own that drum solo. --Mike
  25. Here's a little something I came up with, it's a bit of a work-in process and a big nod goes to the great Basil II, who originally came up with a couple of these track sequences the majestic Barnyard into Wishful into Diamond Claw is all him. I pulled a pretty big cheat and put a Loose Fur song, Chinese Apple as my closing track, but it's one of the best songs Tweedy has ever written, and it sounds to me at least like it would have worked perfectly on AGIB. 1. Pure Bug Beauty (Wilco Book) 2. Hummingbird (Soma) (Wilco Book) 3. Unlikely Japan (You Never Know B-Side) 4. Company in My Back (AGI
