Sounds good to me. It'll be Christmas too: Office parties + Mark + = In that order.

Midlake and Fionn Regan are on 8th November at London ULU.

I caught them at Summer Sundae Weekender and Eamonn said on stage that they'd just been to Tennessee recording the new album. After their set finished he said he was off to get smashed on beer. I just thought it was rock star talk. Bit later on caught him walking away from the Guillemots, staggering all over the place, beer out of can spilling everywhere. Good work!

Caught them live twice over the summer, and the new songs are sounding excellent. Bit surprised at the tracklisting for the new album, I dunno whether it's complete, but their only seemed to be 10 or so tracks on it. If Give Blood is anything to go by the new one should be over in eight minutes.

Many Rivers To Cross is just priceless. As for Jet, well, you should know better!

New album from The Walkmen, and it's a Bobby Belter! A cover of the Harry Nilsson's album. It's raucous knockabout fun.

Califone - Roots and Crowns This is such a good record.

Haunted you? I'd call in Derek Acorrah to give you a good exorcising. Went to see them on Saturday in Reading and they were very good. Could do with sequencing their set a bit better, it was all slow, sullen and slumberlike up until the end and the encores when they suddenly perked up. Majestic tunes though.

Britain's best independent record shops...

Been to quite a few on there: Rough Trade, Picadilly Records, 3 Beat, Selectadisc, Rounders and have seen Beanos but never been in. -
My original thought was 'Saved By His Bell' But that is coarse and low and I would never stoop to that level. So it stays at just a thought.
-
I did a search for this and I don't think it's been posted: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/article/ds37541.html I think just calling the video 'Saved By The Bell' would have been fine. It works better on so many other levels.
-
It surely is and I think just edges the first in terms of quality. It's a bit less hit and miss than the first one, and the has two real stand out tracks: the Tiga and UNKLE remixes.

Yes, I went. They were fantastic, played for well over 2 hours, which is an extreme rarity for central London venues. Although in order to fit G.A.Y. night in afterwards, it meant the band were offstage by 10:30, and so started at just after eight. I didn't hang round the venue after the gig. Full report to follow soon. -

I've seen them three times this year, and on the last occasion they dropped in lyrics from Wilco's I'm A Wheel into Stevie Nicks, and covered part of Guns of Brixton. Which was nice. -
I spent last night (not technically now) listening to some whacked out vinyl from the 70s. A band called T.O.N.T.O's Expanding Head Band....a bit like Walter/Wendy Carlos only without the sexual confusion. Tried having a look on Amazon for some of their stuff, but to nought return. Anyone know any good websites with a slightly more diverse range?

Why do they file away all the interesting music documentaries in the mumblin-around-midnight slot, and yet fill every second of dead air during the day with Desperate Fat Kids' Sex Club in the Sun City, or Friends' re-runs? Missed it.

One play through and I'm really liking this (apart from the final bit of the last song medley when I thought I was being hypnotised to join the Scientologists). It's good, much better Guero, star of the show is Godrich's production, he makes the the instrumentation much more solid and rich (even the samples) without sounding over-polished. Good work, Beck fella!

I'd buy the DVD. The footage from the Albert Hall is sensational.

Reaching back into the m_thomp archives. Very, very, very good.

I caught him in that too, although his part was very brief (not that he was n00dz or anything). Yo La Tengo were also responsible for the soundtrack to Junebug.

Scott Matthews - Passing Stranger and Squarepusher - Hello Everything, which if the first couple of tracks are anything to go by is gonna be awesomed.
