Awesome, thanks for that. Sounds great. Anyone know what guitar that is?

Bush's State of the Union Address: The Final Chapter
MattZ replied to Sir Stewart's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
I got about 7 mins in and had to turn it off. Too painful. -
It sure was. Along with the thousands of other abandoned cars on that highway. One of the most surreal moments of my life. They (actually, Mike) announced on the radio that there was too much flooding at Coventry and they weren't letting any more cars in. So, people got out of their cars -- literally left them on the highway -- and started walking. 15 miles with tents and sleeping bags and whatever else they could carry. Yep, that's it. Charlie Dirksen. Amen.

I'd like to buy you a beer sometime. Those Simple moments are definitely top moments for me too. I think my favorite is that moment in YEM. There was some crazy dude who used to review YEMs on andy gadiel's page in the old days. I think he called it the "nirvana" moment? Jeez, andy gadiel. I am dusting off some cobwebs. Did anyone else here check out gadiel's page? Haha, oh man. I can't believe that was 13 years ago... (NP: 12/6/96)

Yeah, IMO there really isn't even a discussion. 93-97 is hands down the best period. 96 was a bit weak, but each of 93, 94, 95 and 97 were great. And I'd take anything before 93 over anything after 97. Sadly, after 97, the only highlight (for me) was 12/30/99 - 12/31/99. I made it to those two shows also. Only 15 hrs of traffic getting in to that one. Ahh, the good old days. Maybe I should go put some shows on for kicks now. The numbers 6-22-94 will forever be etched in my mind. I can see the Maxell tapes in my mind's eye now.

If phish gets back together, it's going to make me feel like even more of an idiot for sitting in 28 hrs of traffic and giving up and parking my car on the highway and hiking/hitchiking 15 miles from the highway with my tent and sleeping bag on my back to Coventry for their last show ever. I sort of hoped that in honor of me and the thousands others who did that, that they would not reunite. And while I have not listened to Phish in years (I like to tell people that I am a recovering Phish addict), their best period was 93-97. Although I have moved on from their music and basically hat

It's about everything. And nothing.

Man, that's awesome. Ira seems to be one of the most down to earth guys in the biz. Part of what endears me to YLT and him is that he strikes me as very similar to all of us -- an obsessed music fan.

Is this a reunited UT show in 2008 or the proverbial trip back in a time machine?

I hate Robert Christgau. He is a smug prick. Given my thoughts on him, I probably could have used a different example. But I found it quikcly. My only point was that there are a lot of people out there who think this about Jay Farrar's lyrics. And now I am going to get out of this thread before I dig my hole any deeper.
-
Duly noted, and thanks for correcting me. I didn't realize it. There are other examples, though. I do think a lot of people critique Jay's lyrics as being trite. Like I said, sometimes I agree and sometimes I don't. I happen to really like Jay so I don't want to be the one carrying the discussion further, but... Here is Robert Christgau's (I think, unfair) review of Trace: Finally the answer to a question that's plagued me for years. I'd pound my pillow at night, drift into revery at convocations on fun, plumb forget how my dick got into my hand, wondering why, why, why I could never

I go back and forth on Jay's lyrics. Some days I think they are wonderful and some days I think they are incredibly trite and forced (e.g., Coalminers). I say this as someone's with a Son Volt lyric in my signature -- "anesthetize is what you do" is one of my favorite lines ever. Seems like it could mean about 20 different things.

1. Arthur 2. Village Green 3. Lola I am more sure of this than most things.

Me too. I saw I'm Not There for the 2nd time yesterday. He was great in that movie. NY Post is reporting an apparent overdose.

Wow, thanks Wendy. This is awesome. How the heck does he get his voice to do what it does?

Couldn't agree with you more -- I was lamenting the ignorance. I don't blame restaurants for making their spinach taste as good as possible. That's what they are there for. All it takes is common sense and some initiative to figure out why it tastes so good. And that's free too.
-
Oh, without doubt. I definitely spoke too broadly. I didnt mean economics was the sole factor -- just that being poor is a much larger factor than twobobs said when he blamed too much disposable income. As for the ignorance, well, that certainly knows no economic limits. I am constantly amazed at how little people know about nutrition. People just don't realize (or ignore the fact) that the piece of fish and the side of veggies they ordered at the restaurant last night were both cooked with a stick of butter. Each. It is virtually impossible to be healthy when you eat at a restaurant.

It's the opposite. Soda is cheaper than Milk. A bag of doritos is cheaper than a bag of apples. A box of cookies is cheaper than a jar of nuts. That's why so many poor folks are obese.

The circuit city (?) near my office on 5th Ave has two Rock Band setups right by the store window. Crowds gather outside at the window to watch teenagers play the game. There is one dude that plays the guitar behind his back and sticks his tongue out. I am not joking.

I have always felt conflicted by his personality and shtick. I love that he marches to his own drum. It's endearing to me that in a world of bland corporate styled acts that are pre-packaged and delivered, that he can be himself. For better or worse. I don't mean to say that I like his meltdowns or his apparently prior serious drug abuse, but I do like that I feel as though I am seeing the real Ryan Adams when I see him. He could be pulling the wool over my eyes -- the "real" Ryan Adams could be as much of a shtick as anything else, but there's something authentic about him that sticks w

I wonder if this movie will translate well to home viewing on DVD. So much of what was so wonderful about the movie was the music. I don't have one of those crazy surround sound systems. Just a tv and a dvd player...

Since when has the mootness of a topic silenced an opinion on this board? And yes, I agree this will backfire.

Except that critics are saying that the Clinton campaign is disenfranchising voters... That's what I meant. They support the suit so it is splitting hairs. And I agree it's pretty indefensible.
