Most Obama supporters will admit (and I think Obama himself will admit) that his policies and positions are not all that different than Hillary's. No one is out there seriously suggesting that Obama's health care plan is that different than Hillary's. So, maybe I am generalizing here, but that seems to mean that most people are leaning to Obama because he is new, because he is fresh, and because he is a wonderful orator that makes people feel good. That is not something to be ignored in politics. But for me, at this point in our nation's history, I feel more comfortable with someone that

In typical politician fashion I am going to dance around your question and respond with the following: I think that experience is key. I appreciate the breath of fresh air that Obama represents, but our country stands on the precipice of domestic, economic and international disaster. Change for change's sake doesn't seem to me to be our best option. There's no right answer here -- I understand why folks see experience as a fault. Washington is broken and someone from Washington can't fix it. But you know what? That line of thinking seems to assume that someone from outside Washington ca

If the criteria for being a good president was being a good orator, Obama would have my vote. I am amazed at how many people are running to support him because of the amazing speech he just gave or the hope he gives people. When I dig, I see nothing there. Obama seems to be as much of a product of our addiction to rhetoric as any of the candidates. Just my thoughts - not trying to stir the pot since I know there are a lot of Obama supporters on here. I will vote Dem, and I will vote Obama if he gets the nomination, but I dont get his appeal.

I Can Hear The Heart Beating As One will come with me to a desert island if I can only grab 10 cds. Does anyone know how to play Tom Courtenay on guitar? If you do, and you want me to be your best friend forever, please head over to the Lyrics & Tab section of VC and post in my thread.

This thread could definitely have a better name. Just sayin'.

I have seen the Lips twice live and I thoroughly enjoyed those two shows and I will never see them again. The spectacle is the focus -- and that's fine. But for me, the spectacle is old. I am much happier to close my eyes and listen to a band totally nail a tune. That's not what a Lips show is about.

Do you really think the slope is that slippery?

Well, I guess I feel a bit better that I am not the only one scratching my head over this tune. Oh well. I will try to mess around with different hammer-ons and see what happens. If I figure anything out, I will let you know. You might want to check out the video -- it's definitely cool -- although it is making the whole process of figuring out this song even more frustrating. Since now I can SEE what he is doing and still can't figure out what the heck he is doing.

Hey - thanks. This looks awesome -- I will definitely try that out. Any other tips for how you play it? I know he isn't just playing those chords. It seems like he is hammering on other notes throughout all the chord changes, right?

My recently developed addiction to Yo La Tengo has become so serious that I am considering seeking professional help. I cannot stop. NP: Moby Octopad

I am on an Open D kick now too. Thanks to you. And I love it. I love Open D. I want to marry Open D. Many many thanks for all your posts...

It's not. But is it hypocritical to rail against two Americas while consulting on a part-time basis in 2005 at Fortress Investment Group for almost $500,000? I am not knocking the guy for making as much money as he can -- we all do it. But he certainly strikes me as a hypocrite.

Yeah thanks for the help Groo. Seems like the C#m is right - or at least closer. I don't know if he's inverting the chords, or its a tone thing, or just that he's an amazing guitarist and I'm not. I have no idea why YLT songs are so tough - they sound so easy.

Well, if you want to be really good at it, I'd say the less winging the better. But I found it pretty easy to wing it on songs like She's a Jar. It doesn't sound great but it sounds good enough to give me a big shit eating grin when I do it. I started this thread awhile back because I was interested in Sunken Treasure too. At this point, I still haven't figured it out but I havent really dedicated all that much time to it. So, I'd say that winging it doesn't really work for that tune.

I dont know if this is bad etiquette, but I fear that it may be. If it is, please let me know and I will delete the thread. So many folks on here are just so generous with tabs, etc that I figured it'd be worth a shot to ask about tabs by a different band. Anyway, I have been trying to figure out Tom Courtenay by Yo La Tengo and I have found two atrocious tabs online (well, 100 versions of the same two tabs to be more accurate). The best one that I've seen is pretty close -- it has the verses as A, C#, F#m, E (and it adds a D chord at the end of the run for the chorus). That sounds clos

I went for a run the other day and I had my mp3 player with me. I was listening to Panda Bear. At the 20 min mark or so, I got a runner's high. While I was listening to Panda Bear. That was one of the most bizarre experiences of my life. Cool, though.

Great point. I agree with you. The more I think about it, the more it seems that a major point of the movie is that you "can't stop what's coming." I think that line is uttered a couple of times. Fate is fate and looking for it or trying to avoid it is "vanity" as one of the characters said. It comes when you aren't looking anyway. So while we were focused on a whole slew of other things, the real story was something different. And we were guilty of vanity. But at the same time, it's a bit unfair for the Coens not to care who ends up with the dough. Or to say the viewer is "vain" for

No, it doesn't sound strange at all. In fact, when the movie ended last night, it wasn't until i got home that I realized I had no idea who ended up with the money... It hit me that the movie was so powerful that I didnt even focus on the central plot by the end! As for who ended up with the money, it could have been the sheriff or Chiguhr or the Mexicans. There were hints pointing to all three. The sheriff retires, Chiguhr gives a $100 to the kid for his shirt (like Moss did), and we dont see enough with the Mexicans to know (although it appeared that the grate in the hotel room was remo
