Yes, people are wrong to think that NBC or SNL are paying Wilco to do this. But its also a silly notion to suggest that Wilco is not getting paid for this (indirectly). Wilco is doing this for free exposure that will hopefully lead to increased record sales. Money drove this decision. (1) I understand why they are doing it, (2) I would be bummed if I lived in Charleston, (3) People have a right to be upset, and(4) the band did the right thing by rescheduling the date so quickly.

I guess I am hyper-sensitive, so excuse my point to solace, but if there ever was an event that could be accurately described by reference to its moniker it would be 9/11. Posting pics of exploding planes and burning bldgs -- certainly in this context -- is gratuitous and in poor taste. And I hate when people get on their high horses, but we all have our weaknesses I guess. This one's mine. Ignore me because I probably deserve it. EDIT: i thought more about it and i am an idiot. I'm sorry. It just strikes a chord with me, but I need to get over it.

My take on Jay Bennett is that he is an incredibly talented musician and an incredibly talented songwriter, and unfortunately, at the end of the day, that just isn't enough to make it in the music biz. His story is a sad one. I hope he is making music and happy wherever he is. And I never thought the Jeff/Jay B spat was anything other than the completely normal, and not infrequent, progression in the evolution of songwriting teams. It happens. It's not Jeff's fault or Bennett's fault. They grew apart. End of story. Lennon and McCartney didnt want to make music together any more either

I belive that Blood will win because it just seems to fit into the best picture box better. It's the classic epic American film with the dominating front man, and the intriguing director. It was great for sure, but my nonexistant Oscar vote would go for No Country.

I am not trying to deprive anyone of an opinion. Everyone has a right to one. But I also have the right to beat up anyone complaining about anything about these last 5 shows. (and I couldn't agree with you more -- the only way the drone could have been better is if they ended with it)

In the geek out listening thread last night, I got a bunch of people together that agreed to beat up anyone complaining that the drone sucked because it deprived them of an additional 3-4 songs. When we are finished with that task we will go after the folks complaining that Wilco didin't play every song. PM me if you are interested. Knuckle sandwiches with brown mustard.

I think need is a relative term here (I didnt go to any of the residency shows). What I mean is, I guess I wouldn't need to see them until a new album was released. But it's not like I need to see them now either. And I am roadtripping to PA and CT this weekend because, well, I need to see them.

This is the first of the residency (and the horns) that i have heard and forgive me for making a comparison to The Band and Rock of Ages. Wow.

Couldnt agree more. It's mind boggling that this band has so many great songs that just aren't in the rotation.
