  1. Interesting, and yes, troubling. Although there should be an emphasis put on allies. Depending on which way your flag flies, I suppose one could say that's splitting hairs, but the Clinton campaign did not file this lawsuit. President Clinton gives a pretty passionate and point-blank explanation here ( ) but I agree that the timing of this move is incredibly suspicious, and it is hard to imagine that the campaign had no connection to this whatsoever. I wonder what the Obama camp would have done if the union came out and supported Hillary. I guess we will never know.
  2. It would be nice if one of you guys would post something about a Mets trade or free-agent signing every once in awhile. Sheesh.
  3. No way. No chance. (Full disclosure: I said the same thing about Bush in 2000 and 2004)
  4. I think IRDB's point, which could have been made more artfully, was that an atheist doesn't see that much difference between a devout Scientologist and a devout Christian when it comes to the "batshit insane" accusations.
  5. This is quite possibly the coolest thing in the history of the universe. And if not the universe, definitely the earth.
  6. Thanks for this! I've been messing around with this tune too -- the ST version is sublime. I'd love to hear any thoughts folks have on the improvised outro. As an open D newbie, I have been messing around and watching what Jeff does. Little I do sounds bad when I improvise the outro, but little I do sounds great too ...
  7. I might be greedy but I'd love to see them book a 5 night residency somewhere and take a stab at playing every song in the catalog. That would be like one long setlist. That would be cool.
  8. And employers hate paying it and do what they can to structure what they can to avoid paying it. They view it as another tax that they pay, not comp otherwise earned by the employee. If the employer didn't have to match, the employer would keep it. I'm with John Smith.
  9. With an option to carry Wake's jock strap for a 2nd year...
  10. The richest 1% of this country that doesn't want to give some (more) of their money to the government isn't exactly lining up to give their life for their country either.
  11. Yeah, but the Babe got in on the first ballot, and maybe those 11 people voted for Cy Young. Cy Young did not make it the first year they inducted players to the HOF. Neither did Tris Speaker or Nap Lajoie. So I doubt those 11 people thought he wasn't worthy.
  12. I wonder if Obama's and Clinton's camp are both fighting behind the scenes to secure a Gore endorsement. That should be an interesting chess match. I suppose Gore's former Dean endorsement complicates things. Maybe Gore just stays out altogether.
  13. I don't know, of course, but I read somewhere that Rodriguez reached out to him a few times to no avail. No idea if it's true, but like you said, it seemed like rumors of Mallett's transfer kicked up the instant that UM started talking to Rodriguez. I suppose you blame the coach for not getting ahold of the kid somehow, but if the coach tries, and the kid ignores him, I can't expect Rodriguez to get on his knees and beg.
  14. Can someone explain to me how Mallett knew enough about Rodriguez to know that he didn't fit into Rodriguez's offense without even speaking to Rodriguez? Am I crazy to think that Rodriguez could have tailored the spread to the assets he has/had? Didn't Henne run a modified spread offense against Florida? How did Mallett not even have the guts to talk to Rodriguez?

  16. EDIT: I guess the whole "what crap?" theme got me sidetracked...
  17. Most republicans I know wipe their hands of the Bush presidency (so that'd be my guess).
  18. "The Comeback Kid" "Obama-mania" "Surge"
  19. When Hillary was behind, the tears showed weakness. When Hillary won NH, the tears were calculating. I love it.
  20. Yeah but the thing that baffles me is that feelings don't negotiate peace in the middle east. Connections, relationships, respect, hard work, experience do. What if we elect Obama because he makes us feel good and it turns out it takes him 2 years to get his bearings? Or it turns out that speeches notwithstanding he's not very good at foreign policy? I am not saying these are inevitables. He could be great. He could hit the ground running and be the best president any of could hope for. But without any existing evidence to back it up, why are so many people so willing to throw the dice
