Here we go. All winter long we get to hear about the 20 teams that ARod is rumored to be traded to. Can't wait. WFAN in new york reported the other day that the white sox were the first team to call Cashman inquiring about ARod.

And dont cds have better quality sound than what can be downloaded on emusic, itunes, etc.?

It's Glavine on 3 days rest though. A very different proposition. Forecast in STL is rain for today. Hoping hard for a rainout so we can get Tommy back on normal rest. As for Suppan's performance, you just have to be amazed when a pitcher throws a shutout and hits a home run. That is the ultimate performance in baseball. Single-handedly winning a game like that (notwithstanding the defense behind him). Thank god those bats woke up last night, though. Now its a best of 3 series with 2 in NY. It could be worse.

Well, frankly, I hate that argument too. I dont think anyone should be considered special for hustling. But the truth is, in today's game, hustling does set players apart. I dont think 99% of players "hustle" (but I know there is no way to measure something like that). And this may surprise you, but I have absolutely no problem with you suggesting that Uggla or Ramirez are just as good as Reyes or Wright in any category -- its very likely that they are just as good (if not better) when it comes to stats or ambassadorship or hustle or, as you put it so patronizingly, IPI. But when did I sa

Wouldnt having the world champs in your division de facto make your team look more impressive? A common criticism of good teams is that they are in bad divisions. Good teams in good divisions get so much more respect. And we can argue another time about whether a leadoff guy with 194 hits, 19 triples, 19 HRs, 85 RBIs and 65 SBs with a gun of an arm can ever be overrated. But ignoring those stats for a moment (which I estimated), all I meant was that its hard to hate those "guys". By all accounts Reyes, Wright, etc. are really good guys who love playing, love hustling, and are good ambass

I prefer oatmeal stouts to chocolate stouts. But I like chocolate more than oatmeal. Did I just blow your mind or what?
-
I have found that some dark beers taste a bit like chocolate, so it didnt sound that crazy to me at first. Thats one thing to look forward to now that winter is coming -- mmmmmmm dark beer.

It amazes me that people can criticize or question the motives of a mother who has lost her son in war. Or believe that two months is long enough to be done mourning the fact you attended the funeral of your child. Even if she is a money-hungry publicity-starved freak. I dont care. She has the right to be.

Although in our defense, and trust me I am not looking for sympathy here, we live in a town with the Yankees and their fans. I am a fan of a team that is playing in the NLCS and the back pages of every newspaper in town for the last 4-5 days have been covering (i) whether Torre will be fired; (ii) whether ARod will be traded; and (iii) Cory Lidle. And maybe even worse, if the Mets ever do win, all we hear is from the many more Yankee fans around us that "nice work, but 26 World CHampionships, baby!!!" So its not easy being a Mets fan in NY. And it likely explains why we beat our chests ra

I disagree... If you were any older, you probably wouldnt hate the Mets so much. Traditionally, the Cards have always beaten the Mets. Or, at least in my lifetime its been true. Back in 2000 was the first time that, in my life, the Mets bested the Cards. Seriously, I think I wept in 1985 and 1987 (age 9 and 11) when the Cards knocked the Mets out of the NL East race. So, in my world, the Cards still have the advantage on the Mets historically. You shouldnt hate us.

When I was a Mets fan in the mid-80s, there was no bigger rival than the Cardinals. The Cardinals broke my heart in 85 and 87.

Well, I was a member of the University of Michigan basketball team, but I put an asterisk next to it and in small print at the bottom of the page, I disclosed that it was a UM intramural team. My hope was that someone might read it too quickly and that I would get printed in the newspaper as one of the many underclassmen who had declared themselves eligible for the draft. Me and Jalen Rose, ya know? So, anyway, my point in all of this, other than to give myself a good laugh remembering the good ol days, is that I dont think anyone should put too much credence in the fact that CIndy Sheehan

Thank you. Jeez, folks. So, someone somewhere nominated her. Its as simple as that. This reminds me of when I was a junior in college and I sent a letter to the NCAA and the NBA informing them that I was forgoing my senior year of eligibility and declaring myself for the NBA draft. Even though I didnt play college basketball (except pickup games and intramural games). Anyone can declare themselves for the NBA draft and say that they went "undrafted". True story.

Wow, Glavine was huge last night. Bobbob - I am going to guess you hate when the mets win because of the fans? Its hard to hate this team -- its not like the yanks. By all accounts, this is a team of good guys (Reyes, Wright, Delgado, Beltran, Glavine). And yes, they have one of the higher payrolls, but they aren't crazy with it like the Yanks. For what its worth, I was at the game last night, and there is nothing like being at a sold-out, flashbulbs flashing, electricity in the air, baseball playoff game. Its just a completely different level. And its wonderful. I was on sensory ov

Some info on an upcoming tribute to The Band

I just cant get into covers. I cant do it. The original versions are (almost) always so much better that it makes listening to covers too annoying. Why am I listening to Jakob Dylan singing Whispering Pines when I can hear perfection and listen to Richard Manuel do it? -
My hat is off to you. Good work. You knew it was coming. But I still bet a Yankee fan is more likely to do it than a Sox fan. Especially after this year's first round exit. EDIT: Maybe I should post something like that in NY's c-list. Not that it would make any difference, I suppose. EDIT2: Too late. NYers are all over it. Jesus H Christ. People really take their sports this seriously. Wow.

...or some dipshit makes an ARod joke? Its horrible, but you know its coming.

Yeah, sadly that place is far superior to Best Buy/Barnes&Noble/Borders. I am bummed too.

Yeah, I didnt think you really would, which is why I checked the news before giving you a hard time.

Yankees' Lidle Dies In Plane Crash New York Yankees pitcher Cory Lidle was the pilot of a small airplane that crashed into a 50-story condominium in Manhattan, and Lidle is one of two confirmed dead, New York police said.

Holy shit. I was just going to give you a hard time for making a joke like that. You arent joking. Jeez.

I have no love for Tower Records, but if this is true, it means my CD-browsing/purchasing options within a reasonable distance from my apartment just got reduced to Best Buy and Barnes & Noble. Kill me, please. EDIT: the thing I will miss most about Tower Records is going in there looking for a CD from an artist, and seeing that they dont have any copies of the CD I am looking for, but have approx 40 copies of a different CD from the same artist. Awesome.

My wife once told me that her parents made her pick out the belt they would use. We dont have kids. We wont be doing that.
