  1. An argument that the Mets are not built well for the playoffs but that the Marlins are is a different and more sensible argument. I agree that a good offense and mediocre pitching is a much more valuable asset in a 162 game season. Whereas, 3 stud pitchers in a short series is much more important. I suppose time will tell if Johnson or Olsen are as good as advertised. The Marlins are certainly peaking at the right time. Although, I would say that the Mets havent exactly been losing a ton of ground... Were the stats that I linked to wrong then? I have no idea what the right #s are, but
  2. I'll take him on the Mets. that guys a gamer. The Mets and Sox need to team up to beat the Yanks anyway. I just looked up the stats. The Mets team era this year so far (according to ESPN) is 4.09. Tied with the Padres for best in the NL. Now, I know bobbob is going to say that includes relief pitching. But I am not savvy enough to figure out starting pitching ERA. What I can tell you is that starters and relievers on the Mets give up less runs than all other teams in the NL. Including the Marlins (4.30). http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stats/aggreg...amp;season=2006
  3. I dont think anyone in the Mets lineup fears Josh Johnson. But I could be wrong. Either way, I am just stunned by statements like "the Mets have no starting pitching" and that the Sox's season is Francona's fault. And still, in a short series I'll take Pedro, Glavine, El Duque over Dontrelle, Johnson and Nolasco. Like I said before, anything can happen in a short series, but I think its silly to say the Mets have no starting pitching. The Mets are 16.5 games up for a reason. There's an old adage in baseball that says you are never as good as you look when you are hot and never as bad a
  4. Whatever bro. I love how you so casually dismiss entire teams with these throw-away lines. And then pump up your team with the same ridiculousness. Outside of Dontrelle, who on the Marlins staff has anyone in the NL quaking in their boots? Nolasco? Come on. You've had a nice run. A really nice run. But get real. 130 games of this season has shown that the Mets have good enough starting pitching to be almost 20 games ahread in the division... the same division with the Marlins. Anything can happen in a short series, but come on.
  5. That could be a line from a song on L&T or MT. Cool.
  6. Alright - that just weirded me out a bit. That paragraph described my night last night exactly except for the LP part. The couch, the dimmed lights, the bad wine, the wife. I was floored by the experience. Nothing is as good as sitting on the couch with the lights dimmed (cant hurt the eyes if you want the ears to work) listening to Mr. Z. So many emotions listening. At one point, I got a little nostalgic and sad that I probably dont have many more chances to do this with a Mr Z release. How does he DO that with his voice? I will never understand people that dont like his voice. H
  7. One downside to waiting for an official release: I am stoked to talk about the new album but everyone here did that weeks ago and its old news!!
  8. MODERN TIMES. I cant believe how good this is. Someone hold me.
  9. I love it. Who cares if its LT revisited? It smokes. Workingman's Blues, Nettie Moore, Someday Baby? Are you kidding me? When he does what he does with his voice -- and you know what I mean -- its just unbelievable. I am in heaven right now. Listened to it twice so far.
  10. Well, the quote I am thinking of must have been from a different movie then.
  11. I once heard that love means saying you're sorry even when you know the other person is wrong. Tell her that and make her apologize to you. If that works, she's a keeper.
  12. The funniest thing may be that when I walk up to the counter I cant help but think that the clerk there and I have some unspoken bond. Like he knows and I know what is happening right then. But then invariably something happens to make me realize the dude back there doesnt care what the hell I am buying and he is just jonesing for his next smoke break in 5 mins so he can go talk to his buddy Pete that works on the 2nd floor. Closet-geek seems pretty accurate.
  13. I hear ya. I feel like a tool that I do it. And now I feel like a bigger tool that I posted about it. I usually dont talk about these things.
  14. Its just different strokes for different folks. I have a sort of ritual that I like to go through ... getting home, ripping open the CD (usually before my jacket is off) and popping in the CD. Then sitting down on the couch with the liner notes while I have my first listen. Its always the whole album straight through to get an overall feel for the album as a whole. Then I go back to pick out individual songs or listen more closely to lyrics. Not to mention there is something fun about having the album burning a hole in my bag on the way home. Or the way I walk into the record store w
  15. It was so great. I smiled for the rest of the night. I purposely waited until today to listen, and I am running out at lunch to buy the CD. Cant wait to get home tonight to listen. Is there anything that approaches pure childhood glee like waking up on the morning of an official release that you haven't heard? And then putting the CD on and having the speakers explode with unfamiliar tunes from a familiar voice? I am counting the hours to get home. I suppose thats why I try so hard not to listen to leaked albums. Getting them on their official release date is like a pure and natural hi
  16. Yeah, that was sort of my point. Although I have to confess that I was one of them... I cant help it though -- the guy is just cool no matter what he does. Plus, and I know its a lame rationalization by a Dylan fanatic, but when he does stuff like this (or Victorias Secret), I think of it as another case of Dylan keeping everyone guessing and doing whatever he can that is the opposite of what you'd think. When Bono did it, it was annoying. Like I said, I know its a lame rationalization. Dylan can do no wrong for me.
  17. When Bob does it, its cool. When Bono does it, its lame.
  18. Downloading it now. Thanks!!
  19. Not to mention, they both knew they were being filmed in that car, and who knows if this isnt just act. I suppose Dylan pukes at one point so that probably wasnt planned, but either way, what kind of argument is "it shouldnt be shown"? It was documented, it exists, and its out there. So its going to be shown. People can choose to watch it or not, but what kind of argument is that this footage shouldnt even be shown? It isnt flattering so people shouldnt be able to see it? If anything, I think this footage makes them more human. I mean, who hasnt been in both Dylan's and Lennon's sh
  20. Given the chatter on here about Ted Leo, I went and checked out his free show last night at South Street Seaport in NYC. Fantastic stuff. Thanks peeps. A new Ted Leo convert is born.
  21. I had never seen this before... Wow. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZkfAl4PHG8E
  22. I am not the best person to ask because I dont know much of the Dinosaur Jr catalog other than Green Mind. Didnt blow my socks off, though. His skills on the guitar were sick -- he played solo acoustic with all these great effects. The voice was a little tough though. Seems like he's lost a couple of steps on that voice. Or maybe he had a tough night.
  23. And why are there two LPs? Or is one side green and one yellow?
