I think Glavine will be back. I also think Pedro and El Duque will be back. So with those three, and Maine, Pelfrey, Perez, and a potential free agent (depending on Pedro/ElDuque health) I think the rotation is certainly good enough to "compete." Plenty of teams have won by shortening games to 7 innings. And if the Mets proved anything this year, its that getting 5-6 innings from a starter with a solid bullpen can lead to the NLCS. Why move Heilman out of that role? Especially since the Mets will probably be relying on Glavine, Pedro, Duque at some point next year? Now, I dont know if

Idiot Wind from Bootleg Series Vol 1-3. Wow.

I dont even know how to respond to this except to disagree and say that I think the Mets, at a minimum, "competed" this year without Heilman out there every 5 days. But, thanks for filling your scripted role today.

Jeez man. Baseball goes in ebbs and flows. Just like in every sport -- some years one league/conference is better than the other. This year the AL was better than the NL. What is the big deal? A few years back the AL Central was the weakest division in baseball -- now it is by far the strongest. Who cares? Completely void of anything close to competition? This series just went 7 games. It couldnt have gone any more games or been any closer. Isnt that the definition of competition? If you think the Tigers will stomp the NL representative, fine. But I dont see how that makes the NL

Great game last night. Congrats to all the Cards fans -- you guys definitely deserved to win. When Chavez made that catch I thought that the baseball gods were on our side, but alas, they were just toying with us for a change... I'm sorry to see the season end for my team. I cant jump on any bandwagons. But I will be watching the WS and hoping for some good, exciting baseball. Looking forward to next year.

Seconded! Happy bday.

Didn't Donald Rumsfeld play this character in the first movie? Do we need the same character in the sequel?

If my thought-dreams could be seen, they'd probably put my head in a guillotine.

That is the single most moving performance that I have ever seen with my own eyes. It is shot perfectly, it is played perfectly, and Rick hits every...single...damn...note. Pure perfection. Thanks for reminding me about that clip.

I Miss You by Randy Newman. An absolute gem on an underrated album. I assume most here dont know it. Its about a love from long ago. I read somewhere that his wife wasnt happy about it when it came out. Gets me every time. Every single time. Also, want to reiterate: Remember the Mountain Bed If You See Her Say Hello It Makes No Difference Casimir Pulaski

I was in the Upper Deck last night and the bldg was rocking. Literally and figuratively. The place was actually swaying back and forth.

I have never understood the monkey icon. Am I being mocked or can we add to you to the list of folks rooting for the good guys? Yeah, I was sort of joking around. Since no one here knows what the hell I look like. And even if they did, they wouldnt see me in a sea of 60,000 other screaming folks. It may have been a tongue in cheek reference my mom who, to this day, tunes into sporting events to see if she will see me on tv. Even though she never has.

Because I am a glutton for punishment, I just bought a ticket to tonight's game for face. I am so nervous that my stomach hurts right now. Keep an eye out for me folks. I am going to be screaming as loud as I can. This team needs all the help it can get.

All tha' best. Happy birthday El F.

Well, I think I called it a minor miracle. Only because the Cards have Carpenter going tonight against a rookie who hasnt lasted more than 4 1/3 innings this postseason and the Mets dont even know who will be starting game 7. It may be Darren Oliver or Oliver Perez. *shudder* But, here's the good news: they dont call em the Miracle Mets for nothing. Ya Gotta Believe!!
-
I feel like someone kicked me in the stomach. I suppose crazier things have happened than the Mets winning two in a row at Shea, but it doesnt look good. Good pitching always neutralizes good hitting, and the Cards' pitching has been outstanding. Even with two games at Shea, one has to think that the advantage and the momentum has swung to the Cards. It will take a minor miracle for the Mets to pull this out.

That's very considerate of you -- to think that you are saving us from buying fake jerseys on ebay. Thanks dude!!

Yeah, its so rare that the bidding starts at $0.99.

Things would be different if I ran the world.

I love that this was a folk band. How loud can folk band really be?

I bet that band gets signed by Columbia Records now. Lucky stiffs.

Awesome. For better or worse, NYers tend to favor and gravitate towards players that they perceive as tough or unwilling to take shit. ARod is forever tainted in their mind from that Varitek punch. Case in point: Mike Piazza actually took some shit from Mets fans for not charging the mound when Clemens threw the bat at him in the World Series back in 2000. Even though charging the mound would have surely resulted in him getting thrown out of the game, and even though Piazza single-handedly resurrected that team and got them there. NYers are a fickle bunch. Passionate, but fickle.

Yes, this is why Yankee fans hate him. Also, his penchant for hitting into double plays with runners on base and his uncanny knack for hitting home runs when the Yanks are far ahead or far behind. Whether he actually does this more or less than anyone else on the team, I have no idea. But it certainly seems that he does it more... And most Yankee fans hate him/blame him for it. Also -- getting bitch slapped by Varitek a couple of years ago didnt help.

I dont see that play as a reason to blame him for anything. He was going to be out, and he tried something, anything, to find a way to be safe. Was it a bush league play? Absolutely. Is it a reason not to like him? Absolutely. But what does "blame" have to do with it? Maybe I dont remember that play so well, but wasnt he just called out for interference? Wouldnt he have been out anyway?
