  1. Happy bday -- and thanks again for the jon brion recordings.
  2. Fine, but if you dont think there are people out there that will do exactly this, you are lying to yourself. People voted for Bush because of the swift boat vets last time around. And yes, those folks would have done this country a favor by not voting. But they did. And they will again.
  3. Influential to the millions of undecideds that are on the fence right now. Influential to the undecideds that will be deciding this election -- as they have decided the last two presidential elections. No one here is talking about the Dem or Repub base. Those votes are not changing.
  4. Wow. Thanks for sharing that. Wow.
  5. I happen to think the swifties had a much bigger impact than you. And I also think that Repubs/pedos to Dems/anti-troops is apples to oranges. I think people are much more likely to believe the latter than the former.
  6. People make mistakes. People who have every word analyzed and taped and put in the newspaper are more likely to have their mistakes become national headlines. I am willing to chalk this up to a mistake and move on. And while Kerry almost ended up being the leader of the 55th most literate nation, think of some of the quotes we've got from the guy that actually won? Some of which were mistakes and some of which were policy.
  7. I hope you are right solace. But I felt the same way about the swift boat vets. And boy was I wrong. Kerry has even decided to go back to DC because he doesnt want to be a distraction. This is really unbelievable. He is such a dolt.
  8. I respectfully disagree. The disagreement in this thread has nothing to do with where people are coming from or what they believe. When folks take an issue and start talking about it -- without understanding the context or what Kerry actually meant -- they end up spinning whether they intend to or not. The RNC wants this gaffe by Kerry to be on the front pages. Let's ignore for the moment that Kerry is someone who has spent 35 years fighting for veterans and armor for troops and fought in Vietnam (how can someone like this really think that the military is filled with lazy stupid people?)
  9. Kerry was interviewed today on Imus and stated -- and the copies of his prepared speech confirm -- that he insinuated that if you dont do your homework you end up bringing a country into war. Insinuating that Bush didnt look at history or study the region or understand the enemy. He was clearly talking about Bush, but left out the word "us" (i.e., you get "us" stuck in Iraq as opposed to you get stuck in Iraq). Everybody in this thread is a fucking asshole. Chill out for godsake.
  10. *MAJOR SPOILER/QUESTION ABOUT ENDING* Just got home from seeing this and my wife and I had two separate conclusions about the ending. I thought Marky Mark was the good guy coming to save the day -- movie ends on happy note. My wife thought that maybe he was the rat all along and was the one person in the movie that could have "been Costello" (as Leo and Jack discuss in the bar). The movie was intentionally vague at the end I suppose. Anyone have any thoughts whether Marky Mark was a good guy or a bad guy?
  11. I dont put any blame whatsoever on Dylan. I put this in the same category as artists that allows others to sample their music for either rap or mashups or otherwise without crying copyright infringement. There are other -- in many cases -- artistic ways for existing music to be used and expanded upon by others. The fact that Tharp made a schlock of a broadway show doesnt in any way shine a bad light on Dylan in my mind. I didnt see anything that said that Dylan did anything to support this other than to simply allow his music to be used. I'd be interested to hear how much he gets paid of
  12. Good work Cardinals. You definitely deserved this win. Showed a lot of heart, grit, and clutchness (is that a word?) over these last few weeks. Congrats Cards fans. As for everyone else, well, 6 months until opening day!! Here's to another great baseball season, and another long winter waiting for the next one.
  13. I feel so much better now that I know there are 10 sex offenders within a 3 block radius of my apartment.
  14. I guess thats right, but I can't figure out who this show is catering to. Most people either love Dylan or hate him. Know him well enough to get the reference to Captain A-rab or don't. If you love Dylan enough to catch the references, why would you want to spend money to go watch this re-creation of his music? And if you hate Dylan, why would you want to spend money to watch this? I guess maybe people are curious so they take a shot hoping it will be good. Bottom line: go see the real thing. He's still around and he still kicks ass.
  15. If I played baseball, they'd play Beyond Belief by Elvis Costello when I came up to bat. That would be awesome. That song always gets me pumped. Actually, I am going to see if the secretary here can play that when I walk in in the morning.
  16. Keep hope alive Tigers fans. Crazier things have happened. And its not like the Cards are trotting out Bob Gibson in this series. Get the series back to Detroit and then this thing will get interesting.
  17. For some reason, I cannot view the clip. It sounds like this is a blessing. I read a review of this in the NYTimes this morning on the way to work. I have never seen something get so unabashedly panned. It was comical.
  18. I have to think that McCartney is high on this list. Ouch, ok that wasnt cool.
  19. Because I was being somewhat conservative in my example. I think the Yanks can probably get a #1 for him. Probably not with the other guys though. Or at least not Sheffield given his age and injuries. And not Giambi given his salary and his history. And if I am the Yanks, I would want to build my team around a nucleus of Jeter, Cano, Matsui, Posada (assuming that that nucleus is surrounded by a kick ass rotation). But thats just me. Reasonable minds can differ of course.
  20. No, I used that as an example of my larger point which was that winning teams dont need 9 allstars. They need a complement of all-around players that play the entire game well. David Wright is a good fielder, has good speed, hits the ball to right field, etc. Yes, he also hits home runs. When did I insinuate that the Mets would be better off without Wright? I dont know that the Yanks would be able to get equal value for ARod if they traded him for pitching, but even if they got lesser value, I think the Yanks would be better off with a solid #2 pitcher. You know why? Because they alrea
