The way Tweedy actually plays it If you listen to the album version, you can tell it's more than just strummed chords. I dont have a guitar handy, so I dont think I could tab it out right now, but I can do that in the future if there's a desire for it.

That's the only thing that sounds close IMO. Change that E to a Gm and you've got the Dead's Mind Left Body Jam (or maybe Dear Prudence)
-
Nope, it comes in E |-----------------|---------------------------| B |-----------------|---------------------------| G |-----------------|---------------------------| D |-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-|-5/10-10-10-10-10-10-10-10-| A |-5-5-5-7-7-7-7-7-|-7/12-12-12-10-10-10-10-10-| D |-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-|-5/10-10-10-10-10-10-10-10-| ----------------------------HERE HERE The thing I'm talking about is on the record as well as live. Guess it's not the same as what you're referring to. Though now I have no idea what you're talking about

I'm going to agree with the others that Airline is too hard.. put that one off until later. One thing that helps with basic strumming patterns is to keep your hand going in 8th note rhythm up and down, but only contacting the strings on certain beats. That helps you keep the rhythm. So if you think of 1 and 2 and... etc.. as: 1---a---2---a---3---a---4---a then your hand is moving down (d) or up (u) like so 1---a---2---a---3---a---4---a d---u---d---u---d---u---d---u A real basic strum pattern for Via Chicago would be like this 1---a---2---a---3---a---4---a d---u---d---u---d---u---d-

I'm not sure if we're thinking about the same thing... but what I haven't figured out are the times where there's a double chord hit that happens udring the main riff, like where the X's are below in relation to the power chord stuff: ----------------------------X---X---- E |-----------------|---------------------------| B |-----------------|---------------------------| G |-----------------|---------------------------| D |-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-|-5/10-10-10-10-10-10-10-10-| A |-5-5-5-7-7-7-7-7-|-7/12-12-12-10-10-10-10-10-| D |-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-|-5/10-10-10-10-10-10-10-10-| are those the "nois

To make it sound even more cool, detune that open G note at the end - you can use a Whammy bar, bend the neck, or if you're especially talented, use the G-string tuning peg to tune it down, and then back up for the correct pitch.
-
For some reason I thought the OP was asking about Airline instead of Jesus Etc. I actually have a rough tab at home for Jesus Etc... one caveat is that I play in C6 tuning so the tab wont be any use to people playing in open G (unless someone wants to convert it to an open G tab)
-
I bought one of those $60 Artisan jobs - they seem to get the job done. Nels' parts on Airline are just improvisation on an E major scale. His signature riff is just: G#.... A G# F# E G# the actualy tab would depend on the tuning used

I had missed those - thanks.

Tonefactor has them too http://www.tonefactor.com/products.php?cat=54

I love you man But you're not getting my Bud light Actually, if you poke around the tabs here, quite a few have lead guitar parts included.

Very true. Or a Blues Junior. Or a vintage Vibro Champ (susally get those for $300-400) I dont think you're ever going to see those at $700 or under sadly. Even the new Chinese-made Custom Classics are more like $900. Another good brand to look at is Traynor (which is what I have). YVC40WR for people who like a Fendery sound (but with better overdrive IMO) or the YCV50Blue for Marshall fans. Both very nice amps for that can be bought new on ebay for $500-600

Have you even looked at the gumbopages tab? It's pretty darned detailed. Sometimes you have to suck it up and figure the rest out yourself.
-
Man, I'm really liking those songs.
-
I would say it's better for a more alternative/noise type rock than rootsy folk/blues music. Another band which has used this pedal is the Datsuns - check out their song "Harmonic Generator"
-
You're right. I play this without a capo so I need that barre shape. With a capo you can simply use the first position E as a starting point like you posted. It ends up being the same notes.
-
I dont think it's too similar to the Machine - for instance running the Prunes and Custard into a fuzz would definitely not make the fuzz cut through any better, it probably would be totally lost inthe mix. It is very cool at what it does though. I do own one - I might be able to post a clip of my interpretation of the Hell is Chrome solo using the Prunes and Custard and a compressor. (Unfortunately I dont have any recording equipment at home)
-
I dont have any clips (yet), but Jeff uses it on Spiders, the solo to Hell is Chrome, and I'm pretty sure on At Least That's What You Said. It's an interesting pedal - combination of regular overdrive and strange harmonic intermodulation - the latter sounds sort of synthy. When you play two string at the same time, you get some pretty bizzarre interactions between the two notes.
-
I only listened to the opening bit of the Engineer version, but it sounded exactly the same as the other version I had.
-
I have full versions of both those from the "other" YHF outtake disc. I can YSI them tomorrow... I'd like to second the request for mp3 versions if anyone has them. I haven't been able to convert these to mp3 to import to iTunes (and WMA is a especially crappy compression format to begin with, so if someone has these files which haven't been converted to WMA first, that would be awesome...)

(AA meeting voice) Hi Danny :wave Your guitars sound very cool - you have a pic of that tele?

I hope one of you guys can fill in some of the blanks... that middle section is a big mental block for me -
I think what you're looking for is a Dsus2 --D-D--Dsus2-D e-2-2--0-------2 b-3-3--3-------3 g-2-2--2-------2- d a e
