  1. My main OD is a Lovepedal CoT50. Does a great plexi-like breakup, and works well driving a tube amp into saturation or can be used into a totally clean amp and still sound great. Expensive though. I also have a used Vox Valvetone, which is sort of similar to a tubescreamer, and a Boss SD-1 (also like a tubescreamer) that sits unused.
  2. Prunes and Custard does some very interesting stuff, but I'd invest in a more conventional overdrive (or 3) as well.
  3. What version is this (in post #1)?
  4. touche What song do you think he uses that on? I'm still hesitant to recommend delays until the user has an idea of how he/she would use one. I'm with you on analog delays, but those are pricey.
  5. I'm going to agree with Jimmy in that an AC30 is probably too loud for small clubs - you're going to want to be able to make your amp work hard for it sound the best. You'd be able to push an AC15 harder without pissing people off, and if you move to larger venues you're usually mic'ed anyway. As for effects, multi-effects can be cheesy, but for a person who is new to effects they can also be a good start. The Zoom G2 is cheap ($99), quiet, and has quite good effects for a digital multi. Even if one were to move to individual pedals, these things are useful in case you want to have, say,

    Candy Floss

Is it actually different than the album version?
  7. He has done that with Wilco too. You can't tell if he's doing Far Far Away or New Madrid until he starts singing.
  8. You can also (sort of) tell since the chorus is in G major which is the relative major of E minor. Seems like most songs with a minor key part and a major key part use the relative major/minor key pair.
  9. No worries - I recommend this:
  10. Right. And If I had actually read your post, I would have caught that. My bad.
  11. Mine were totally tongue in cheek - (the other two songs are about spousal abuse)
  12. Crap - I forgot. I'll see if I can find my handwritten copy at home
  13. Hmmm, except that open Bb at the 9th fret is G major, not G minor. Seems like it would be better to fret the 2nd and 4th stings at the 2nd fret and leave he others open.
  14. I dont play Theologians in drop D - am I missing something?
  15. Gotcha - I recommend Oasis, Coldplay, and the RHCP's "Scar Tissue"
  16. OK, but your quesiton is like saying: "What songs can I play with guitar". Find ones you like and play them... I'm not sure why you need suggestions. You're not going to be limited by the instrumentation, that's for sure.
  17. You should try some Fall Out Boy
  18. Sounds cool, but I think I'll stick to standard, capo 3
  19. Guitar chords are probably available all over the place, no? I dont remember if they were doing anything different in the movie - I dont think so
  20. She's a Jar Via Chicago At Least That's What you Said
  21. Passive is fine, unless you need the pedal to boost, rather than cut, you volume. The VP Jr. works great - I have one. There is a difference in the resistances though - the 250K is meant for passive pickups, the 25K for active pickups. The EB website says this: "Whenever there is a passive signal leading into an EB pedal, the 250K or 500K pedal is recommended (mono VP & VPJR 250K and stereo 500K VP pedals available). Whenever there is an active signal (powered preamp, powered pedal, effects loop, etc.) leading into an EB pedal, the 25K pot is recommended (stereo VP and mono VPJR pedals a
  22. D -------0--2h4--0 and then a D chord
  23. That would imply the body, neck, headstock have all been replaced. Seems weird to keep a bridge and tuners and replace a body, but who knows?
  24. Cutting down the sustain on an electric and making it feel like an acoustic is for wussies.
  25. According to Jeff Tweedy, playing with a capo is his way of cutting down the sustain on electric guitar and making it feel more like an acoustic.
