The Wilco full band versions circa 2002 were most definitely in D using a dropped D tuning. These ar ethe ones I play along with, so I feel pretty confident about that. I think the Loose Fur version was the same, though looking at that other tab maybe another tuning using a low D was used. I suppose in some cases (solo versions) he does it dropped D capo 2. In that case, as you said, you can use standard tuning but the chord voicings won't be exactly the same. Personally, I like the sound of the D to "pseudo D/B", capo or not.

There's an old thread on this if you can find it. I'd say we got most of it down....
-
You need a D on that low string to get the little lick he does at the very beginning and just after the vocals. Otherwise the dropped D isn't esential.

Zoom G2 - good all in one effects package and a great value... something like $100
-
The problem is the next step up seems to be several hundred dollars - a bit much unless you're really serious about it. I find that with a crapload of reverb into a decent tube amp (realizing that most steel players these days use high powered solid state amps but I prefer tube) I think it sounds pretty decent. It's my playing that I'm less than happy about. One recommendation I got (actually he's on VC) is to use a heavy bullet bar for better tone.

I don't know - play the gumbopages version on acoustic, you have the Tweedy solo version. Play on electric into an overdriven amp, you have the UT album version (or at least the basics... there are probably lots of little riffs that aren't explicitly tabbed out)

Agreed - those cool chords really make the song interesting
-
Bah, you dont need any stinking intro, just a ton of feedback, and yell "I CANT TELL YOU ANYTHING... YOU DONT ALREADY KNOW" and come in with a heavily distorted D power chord
-
The gumbopage tab is accurate - I've used it many times
-
I just want to play Pecan Pie and Blastin Fonda (maybe Acuff Rose too)... maybe I should try one
-
Nice - those are killer guitars
-
Yep, those parts, and also at the very beginning before the piano riff comes in. For the record, Ebow + wah + Prunes and Custard does these sounds pretty well.

Ahh, those. When I was playing without a capo, I was just using an open C shape, hammering on the D string and the G string, which I considered close enough for rock and roll. When I switched to capo 3, I never bothered to try and figure it out. I showed my tab of the rock break to our Wilco ensemble instructor, and he had a few corrections, one of which made a real difference. Just now I edited my old post to reflect that.

How playable is that?
-
I turned the amp on (ie off of standyby) and unplugged it - left it like that for 5 minutes. I also used latex gloves, but that was mostly to avoid getting finger oil on the tubes - dont know if that's necessary or not.
-
It was a tad awkward, but not really bad at all.
-
I can personally attest to that. My only "complaint" is that the 40W is overpowered for what I need it for so I might look into an inexpensive attenuator like a Weber Mini Mass.

Most importantly, the wine red versions look really cool

You dont need a slide, but it works better with bending up to that C note e--------------------------------------------------------------- b-------------12b13-10---------------12b13--12b13b12--10 g--10-12-10-------------10--12--10--------------------------- d---------------------------------------------------------------- a---------------------------------------------------------------- E--------------------------------------------------------------- And thanks for catching my error on the intro
-
After that slide up, the first note is a G# - I play it on the B string at the 9th fret. Tweedy definitely plays it somewhere else farther down on the fretboard, but the notes are the same. So hit that however many times, then: e---------------------------------------------- b--9-------9---------------------------------- g----7---7--7----3-5-3-----------3-5-------- d------------------------3-3----3-------------- a---------------------------------------------- E---------------------------------------------- and hang on that C until the chords come in. There are many ways to play these notes

Hey, I haven't forgotten about this, but with internet only at work and guitars only at home, it takes a little more time and planning than the last couple weeks have allowed for. I will have more time this weekend, and wil post it then.
-
I've figured it out in the past, and it's pretty easy assuming you're capo'd up 3. Without a guitar handy, I couldn't post it right now, but I'll do it in the future (remind me if I forget)

I ebay all kinds of guitar crap, but I don't think I would buy a high-end acoustic that way
-
Any idea what amp(s) he uses?
