  1. Are there any decent places to stay near the Rock & Roll Hotel on 1353 H Street NE? I'm going to see Califone there on Saturday, but I'm trying to not spend $135 on a hotel that is 15 blocks away.
  2. Man, those people have some weird names, wherever they're from.
  3. I'd recommend getting Firefox. Seriously, though, I don't have an answer for you.
  4. If you use Firefox, try installing the DownloadThemAll plugin: http://www.downthemall.net/
  5. As cool as they are, neither of the covers really stack up, do they?
  6. I think that they're all basically the same, give or take quality and banter. The Chelase Walls version is probably the best-sounding. Overall, though, great song.
  7. Yeah, and frankly, when I didn't get my Christmas bonus this year, I was glad that my boss was kind enough to preserve my integrity on my behalf, and not corrupt me with money that I'd use to enable gift-giving (like music, for example). I'm was just glad that someone was looking out for me, because lord knows, I have no judgment of my own.
  8. I'm listening to the vinyl here, too. It's so high quality, it's almost as if they were trying to get people to buy it.
  9. I'm listening to the album now; it totally reeks of accessibility and effort.
  10. The only problems that you might encounter won't involve whether they've in fact "sold out." This is indisputable, as you've showed at length. The biggest roadblock will be overcoming the inevitable, infamous "who gives a shit?" defense, probably by Johnny Cochran, himself.
  11. That looks like solid evidence; an open and shut case, if you ask me. I would suggest that you keep fighting until it's possible to convince the world that Tweedy is completely in the wrong. I guess the next step would be to indict the remaining band members and see if they'll accept a plea to testify against the ringleader, Tweedy. At that point, then, we can demand confiscation of money earned through the VW partnership and return said moneys to the rightful owners, the fans. I'll ready the paperwork, if you want. I also have a connection at the U.S. Post Office who can get me cheap rates on
  12. Yeah, I can't really watch it anymore, except in reruns. The new episodes are pretty insufferable and definitely have problems similar to The Simpsons. Dr. Reed is also pretty good looking, but her character has also gotten consistently more annoying over time. In fact, just about everyone on the show annoys me nowadays. I like Dr. Cox though. Even more because he is one of the Bobs in Office Space.
  13. I might pick up the vinyl set. Hopefully it comes with the DVD, which looks interesting. The thing about the Wilburys is that most of their songs are kind of bad, although the hits are stellar. For the majority of the catalog, though, you can tell that they were written mostly off-the-cuff.
  14. Has anyone considered that the traditional avenues for making money in the music business are becoming less useful? I imagine that as overall CD sales fall, "artists" will be more inclined to sell their tracks individually and for advertising. You may find that "selling out" in 5 years means something completely different than it did in the Fugazi days.
  15. jnickerson, you've given this thread enough juice, and stated your opinion 69 times. Do you need everyone to agree with you before you let it go? At the bottom right hand of the page, there are Moderation Controls. Please lock this thread and put it out of its misery.
  16. It really depends on the application, as evidenced in your post. If you're using a "gas guzzling" vehicle for a practical purpose then, well, it's practical to own one. Commercial Hummers are not made to be practical, though. They are made to symbolize the freedom to consume excessively, whether the Hummer owner knows it, or not, GM surely does. I'd venture to say that there are many vehicles that can do what a Hummer does, and better, for cheaper. Every Hummer owner I know keeps it spotless, waxed, and empty.
  17. This thread is essentially some whining, some people saying "quit your whining," and some other people joining in the whining.
  18. I think it's time for people to stop posting in this thread. Either accept that 1) Wilco has "sold out" and move on because you fundamentally can't tolerate that 2) They have justifiably marketed themselves because they're a business, and a small one in the grand scheme of things 3) TV makes you dumber and isn't worth watching (my opinion), or 4) If you're watching cable TV, you've probably already "sold" your soul This thread has gone beyond browbeating inanity, and that in itself is an unjustified lashing-out of sorts
  19. For acts that I've followed since they were small, I usually start to lose interest when I can no longer experience them in an intimate setting. I don't hold it against them or badmouth them, I just lose interest. For example, about 7-8 years ago, Modest Mouse used to come around here every year, and I'd go see them in a local club, with about 300 other people. On the other hand, in my view, Wilco has done their best to reconcile popularity with a genuine care for their fans. They have continually tried to make themselves accessible while also reaching a wider audience, and I'll probably con
  20. He should check out the definition of 'corporation,' too, while he's at it.
