  1. Champagne Supernova - Oasis Galaxie - Blind Melon
  2. It took me forever to find this soundtrack. One of my childhood favorite movies and film scores.
  3. I know the band but I'm not too familiar with their material; however, I do own a song by them. They did a cover on this Rutles tribute cd I have, Rutles Highway Revisited. They do Love Life. Pretty cool cd if you can find it (Galaxie 500, King Missile, etc.) Am I remembering correctly that Ann M. was on that Richard Lewis/Jamie Lee Curtis sitcom or was she on another show?
  4. Todd Barry has to be one of the funniest comedians working right now. I think he even did a bit that involved Wilco somehow.
  5. I prefer The Ventures but The Shadows will do in a pinch.
  6. Amazing. I read about their philosophy on performing a number of years ago. They treat Beatles music as pieces to be performed rather than songs to cover (ala a tribute or cover band). They see the recordings as the definitive versions of the songs and try to reproduce them much like an orchestra would reproduce a Beethoven or Mozart from the sheet music.
  7. I just saw online that the band my little brother used to be in, The London Souls, that got their start in my parent's basement, are opening for two shows on The Black Crowes latest tour (Long Island and New Hampshire). That was odd to see when looking for tickets. Good luck to them.
  8. I've been using my local library system to try out music I'm interested in. I recently went through a couple month jazz binge and was able to get almost anything I read about using my local library system.
  9. June 8th looks to be a good day: New Blitzen Trapper and Teenage Fanclub. I will be useless that day with my head buried in the headphones.
  10. So sad to hear this news. Saw the reunited Big Star in the 90s and they were great. Big Star has been a big influence on me over the years. I'm sorry we won't be able to hear the quirky directions Alex would have gone into in the future. His backup vocals on Chris Bell's You and Your Sister always give me the chills. RIP.
  11. I'm sure this has been up here before but... Superbowl Jesus (Kanye West + 1985 Chicago Bears vs Wilco) by The Hood Internet http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qxd6gg6FrZc
  12. LA band from a while back. They recorded an album's worth of material at AIR studios and the above album is the result. Schmed, the songwriter, was in a band called Arlo for a while and was even brought in by Weezer for a little bit to play keyboards when they were demoing an album a long while back. I could see PopTodd liking this one.
  13. I'm a Loser, Mother Nature's Son, I Don't Want to Spoil the Party, Tell Me What You See, Rain On the George Harrison/My Sweet Lord/You Never Know topic, I would love to hear Wilco do a version of Harrison's Don't Make Me Wait Too Long. That tune has the more laid back vibe of You Never Know and I could really see the band putting their stamp on it.
  14. I was just listening to Teenage Fanclub's album 13 today. That's the album that really made me love that band but listening to it today made me realize the production is really muddy and is not as crisp sounding as their other albums. Does that count? I really like the record and don't think it's a "bad" record, just needs a facelift.
  15. I saw it and thought it was pretty good. A review in the paper here said that while the first episode was a little all over the place, subsequent episodes really work well. I'll stick with it for a while.
  16. I agree. And for some reason, my iTunes loves the muzak version of Golden Blunders.
  17. I saw Winona Ryder and Ethan Hawke at a Town Hall NYC show in 1999. Nora Guthrie was a few rows in front of me when I saw Wilco at the same place in 2001.
  18. I would love to see Noel write some good tunes again. If that means time away from his brother, so be it. Oasis is one of those bands that friends of mine can't believe I like knowing the other bands I like (does that make sense?). They were, at their best, a great rock band with memorable melodies. After "Morning Glory", they lost a bit of their "fun" and tried to rip off psychedelic glam rock. A bit like McCartney (or Lennon, I can't remember the quote) describes Elvis. Before he went into the army, there was a glint of danger and fun in his eye, but after he got back from the army, t
