I always smile when the drum fill of "I Must Be High" kicks in. The first opener on the first Wilco album gets my vote.

Just finished: I read Hyperion and the follow-up so I figured I'd try one of his other genre books. It was a fun read. Starting today:

It took me a while to warm up to this one but the more I listen, there are some pretty good tunes on there. Especially the Ben Ottewell sung ones.

Had this one recommended to me a few times. I'm liking it.

I was at that Toad's Place show. If I remember it featured a ton of Mermaid Ave. stuff and Jay really shined. The Airline to Heaven version was especially good. I'll always look back at the shows I saw with Jay in the band as special. Thank you for all you've done for the music I embrace, Jay, and the inspiration you've given me and everyone else here in this community.

This one has a good mix of his whole career. Intl. Sub. Band, Byrds, Burritos, Solo, etc.

I'm also not Sam and Eddie from the highly underrated "Safe Men." Just thought I'd give one of my favorite movies/characters a nod. Plus, their musical stylings are sweet.

Why the new store? Maybe cleaning house for new merchandise? http://wilco.kungfustore.com/

Pitchfork Media's reaction to the new record
Somnambulist replied to Clint09eastwood's topic in Just A Fan
I still can't believe Pitchfork had the cojones to post this review. I remember them getting some flack for it when it came out. http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/9464-shine-on/ -
This is the correct answer. Just listen to his live recordings with The Byrds. Good call. Technically proficient, seems like he'd be the ultimate recording session secret weapon. He used to have a website, guitargonauts.com that had all the albums he's played on. He did a fair amount of work on Peter Gabriel solo records. Andy Partridge I would also consider a great guitarist. He's got a definite style and while not always on lead, he can spruce up a track with some inventive playing.

Album cover reminded me of this:

Six Days on the Road - Flying Burrito Brothers Willin' - Various versions (I like The Byrds one) got some cities in that tune you don't hear all the time.

Good to see the minor characters back. Yes, Creed was great, especially when he tries to set Jim up with his daughter.
-
It seems every show I went to in the early 90s in NYC had Yo La Tengo as the opener. I guess I can't get away from them! Maybe the universe is telling me I should get one of their records.

I still can't get into London Calling or Aeroplane but Pet Sounds clicked for me 20 years ago and I've been a fan ever since.

I got two general admission tickets for the "seats" section for the Brooklyn show. I clicked on the presale at 9:59, got through and tried for "field" general admission tickets and got the message that there weren't any available. I thought that was a bit strange but I'm good with the seats. Should be a nice July night in a minor league park overlooking Coney Island.

Not on an album but one of the best uses of a pedal steel I saw was by The Verve on tour in 1997 or so. It was pretty cool sounding hearing some of those Urban Hymns tunes with a crazy, distorted pedal steel as part of the band.

Where's a good place to start with Luna?

My kids (6 and 4) and I listened to this on the way to school/work this morning.

I plan on picking this up tomorrow but I was wondering if anyone has heard it yet and anyone's first impressions? I downloaded "Airstream Driver" free from their site a while back and liked it. I've read a few reviews of the album and while they're not stellar, they say it's a good mix of "older experimental" Gomez and "newer polished" Gomez.

Yeah, that's a nice Ric bass. I've never seen him trot that out in any shows. I wonder why?

Not sure who the violin player was in his band but when I saw Son Volt last year, Chris Masterson opened with Eleanor Whitmore, a violin player who is also cute: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea...endID=155024154 And, is AC Newman the same Carl Newman that was in Zumpano and if so, does he play any tunes of theirs in concert? Look What the Rookie Did and Goin' Through Changes are two great albums.

"You and Your Sister" Chris Bell "Do You Realize" Flaming Lips "San Diego Serenade" Tom Waits "Planets" Teenage Fanclub "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away" The Beatles "I Don't Know How to Love Him" Yvonne Elliman (from original production of Jesus Christ Superstar)

I like a lot of the post-Parsons/Sweetheart Byrds when Clarence White was with them. Untitled/Unissued cd and the first Byrds Box Set are good places to start for "rock" fans getting into country music. There's enough of a mix so that you feel like it's not straight-up country but more of the rock/country hybrid Gram Parsons preached about in his early years.
