  1. Well, the Brotherhood was a collective that was responsible for millions of hits of orange sunshine (along with tons of hashish) reaching the streets from coast to coast in the early-mid '70s. I was being silly - but there is a very good book Acid Dreams by Martin Lee that examines in depth the connection between LSD, the counterculture, politics and music.
  2. As for Mick's cash flow from '71-'74 I always just assumed he was involved with The Brotherhood of Divine Love.
  3. I thought the Biden/Murtha opening skit was pretty damn funny last Saturday night. They took Senator Joe to the logical comic extreme.
  4. 10/27/73 - State Fair Coliseum, Indianapoils IN I: Promised, Sugaree, Mexicali, Loser, BT Wind, TLEO, Jack Straw, Ramble On, El Paso, BE Women, Greatest, Loose Lucy, BIODTL, China > Rider II: Me & My Uncle, Bertha, Bobby McGee, T Jed, Playin' > Half-Step > Big River > Playin', He's Gone > Truckin' > Nobody's Jam > Wharf Rat > Stella, Sugar Mag E:UJB 35 years ago today - the first time the band hit the Indy area, beginning a long romance with the Hoosier state. Two of my oldest and dearest friends (Jack and Tom) were at this show - the same guys who drug me t
  5. Thanks for this post miss jayne. I was wondering how Nels acoustic would sound . I'll bet that was awesome! Everybody seems to be coming to a conclusion that NY is blowing up buildings wherever he goes. I can't tell you how happy this makes me feel. When NY is feeling inspired it really is an amazing thing, and from most reports he's feelin it pretty good right now.
  6. Wheel, since you're here, we should mention "Elephant Talk" from KC's Discipline LP. Not even close to the best song on the record imo but still a killer opener to a whole new generation of Crimson. This record got constant attention here the summer after my HS graduation.
  7. Highest price here - mid-July - $4.19 Now - $2.48 A buck seventy one drop in a little over 90 days. 40% lower. In 3 months. I know it's an election year but that just seems insane to me.
  8. That a Perry solo LP, right? I saw the Joe Perry Project open for Heart on the Dog & Butterfly tour in around '80. I thought it was nice and raw and bluesy - much better than the Aerosmith "Ruts" tour I had just seen with Crespo on guitar.
  9. Just to recap, Senator McCain: The Gipper was the progenitor of 'trickle down economics' (aka "voodoo economics"), and we have seen all too clearly how well THAT has worked out over the years. It just fucking KILLS me how that man gets mentioned as one of the great ones. McCain is so obviously delusional. Jeesh.
  10. Yes, but they have things that are better than money. (Like SBD cassettes)
  11. (Not surprisingly) my favorite movie of all times.
  12. Yeah, I am fond of that show as well. They were on a pretty good roll that fall. Evidently the Powers That Be (Lemieux) thought so too - the next night 11/1 was a Dick's Pick.
  13. Don't forget to crank this up today as well.
  14. Damn Lam you beat me to it with U2's "Where the Streets" - first thing I thought of. OK, I'll go with Dire Straits' "Telegraph Road" from the LP "Love Over Gold". Pretty much the definition of epicness right there.
  15. What do you think of these dudes? The verdict's still out on them for me.
  16. I've never got over the way that record was re-done. After being weaned on the LP (which wore out of course) I eagerly snapped up the Lumpy/Money 2-fer when it came out. Although the 'noise' pieces (Nasal Retentive Calliope Music, Chrome Plated Megaphone Of Destiny) sound excellent the rest of the album is missing the psychedelic vibe that is so crucial to the record for many (mostly satirical) reasons. The LP has this in spades - Flower Punk is a good example. The difference in the tune CD vs. LP is pretty drastic.
  17. One thing is true: a 12-step program can save your life but it might have a detrimental effect on your music.
  18. Oh man. This is such sad news. I loved Merl. A nicer guy you'd never meet. A brief Merl story that will tell you what a sweet human being this man was: when Jerry came out of his coma in July '86 the illness had completely robbed him of his ability to play. Couldn't remember ANYTHING about how to play. Merl began visiting the Garcia house every day, and slowly and painstakingly got Jerry to begin playing - first real simple stuff, and later more and more complex stuff. They'd play for an hour then take a short walk down the sidewalk, then back to playin'. Carolyn (MG) was amazed, and so grat

  20. Friends you have that are Republicans? C'mon now.
  21. 6/10/73 - check it out, Wookies.
  22. Oh man, do I have a story to tell from that tour (later, when I have some time). But you're 100% right on that one.
