  1. I will say this: GnR is EASILY the best of the 80s LA hard rock/metal scene, and it's not even close.
  2. I think it's safe to assume that once members of a band get older other things occupy space in their lives that was once taken up almost entirely by the music - children, marriage, etc. It's extremely rare that a band continues to have the "fire" it once did when they were just living from gig to gig, album to album. Personally, I burned out on the band when WTA came out. Not to say that I don't enjoy it when I hear their tunes, it's just that I don't make too much of an effort to dig out the LPs or the 100s of hours of shows I have laying around here. That's not the case (for me) with Th
  3. You have to love Bob. One of my favorite things I've ever heard from him: Peter Grant: I manage Led Zeppelin Dylan: I don't come to you with MY problems, do I?
  4. ^Which is why we love the guy. If I'm on a good roll and around people of like-mind I can yak about the band all day.
  5. I got one on my guitar case from a YMSB show - "Not all who Yonder are lost"
  6. 35 years ago today - yes, there's the novelty of the "Close Encounters Jam", but do yourself a favor and check out the entire "Other One". Over 20 minutes, and a throwback to '70-'71 Other Ones. Seriously. This tune lost a LOT post-hiatus ('76-'95) imo, but this is not of those times. Pretty epic, I'd say one of the better version in the last 20 years.
  7. I can't even begin to compare any era of Wilco to The Dead. It's just a completely different thing to me. I HAVE thought about this one, though: GD 72 / Phish 93 GD 73 / Phish 94 GD 74 / Phish 95 Both bands at the height of their powers, both getting more and more sophisticated in their jamming, both never again achieving the 'turn on a dime' improvisation afterwards.
  8. I'd throw in Charles Mingus Presents Charles Mingus in there, Mr. H.
  9. I finally thought of one (Rock division): Led Zeppelin I. I might be able to do without "You're Time Is Gonna Come" but everything else...certainly one of the best debut albums ever.
  10. Not only did they play in Barcelona, they did a SPANISH JAM. IN SPAIN.
  11. If I were to think this one over probably 90% of my LPs would be live stuff, cause that's just my preference.
  12. Everyone seems to agree, but I'll throw in another vote for 9/6. 105 minutes IIRC. A RIDICULOUS length for later period of Dead.
  13. That's a hell of a list, Mr. H. Jon Lord in particular stands out for me. Ravi, Etta, Earl, Brubeck...they had a good run but Lord, DAMN he was an original. Best keys in hard rock, hands down imo.
  14. Don't fuck around, man. Go directly to September 1973 - especially 9/11. Trust me on this one.
  15. Well NOW we're talkin' some stuff! The more Pig the better!
  16. David Bowie, the song...or David Bowie, the man? They're both totally awesome!
  17. That's odd: two shows 5 days apart at the same venue? And 250 bucks - hey I love the band but that's extreme.
  18. I just went through this entire thread, being a very long time since I'd looked at it. I don't recall half of what I said, but there it is. One thing I DID notice is that no one, myself included, has mentioned Phish's A Live One. The band on what many would say their finest, most experimental tour (Fall '94), and superb renditions of many of their most loved songs. I had this one on rotation for YEARS.
  19. No kidding? That's about the coolest thing I've heard in awhile.
