  1. Come on man! He said "who is your 'greatest band of all time'?" not THE greatest band of all time! Besides, mb already covered this.
  2. That's right, you work in a massage parlor, right?
  3. In the mid-70s to early 80s, Martin was notorious for abusing his pitchers' arms. Most teams were not pushing their pitchers to pitch complete games as they were in the previous era by this time. It's thought that Catfish Hunter's career ended prematurely due to how hard Martin ran him on the mound. And, while pitchers still did pitch complete games, from time to time, it was no where near as often as Martin had his pitchers do it. His first couple of years in Oakland showcase this, and by his 3rd/ last year there he had pitchers with toasted arms and they sucked.
  4. Definitely one of my favorite acronyms.
  5. Heh. As much as Martin was known for being able to turn a team around, he was also known for ruining careers of young pitchers by over-working them.
  6. Sorry RainDogToo, Tom Waits is not a band. You'll need to choose a band.
  7. Sorry, man. Alcohol and Pills. Not a good combo.
  8. Yeah, they've basically tossed out the need for a MMJ license, though I suppose those that still need one will keep/get one because of insurance/discounts/etc. Maybe people will start handing out joints to the homeless.
  9. As of Jan 1 anyone over age 21 can buy weed in a weed shop here. It's already legal to carry up to an ounce on you and to grow up to 12 plants per household (or more, depending on the number of adults in the house). Last night the Denver City Board opted to allow adults to smoke weed in the open as long as it's on private property. All these things are better than gov't cheese, and I love cheese.
  10. Brent would've been 61 yrs old now if he were still kickin'. Wild.
  11. Billy Martin is an on-the-fence candidate for the HOF. He had an average career as a player and an above average career as a manager. Regardless of his abusive/abrasive demeanor, the guy was able to turn teams around. However, I don't see the accolades/titles that a lot of HOF managers have. Beyond being a colorful character, he was not much more than a little above average manager, not a "great" manager. Whatever, though. The HOF gets a little more absurd every year with who they deem worthy and who they keep out. The BBWAA take themselves a little too serious/powerful.
  12. And each one there Has one thing shared: They have sweated beneath the same sun, Looked up in wonder at the same moon, And wept when it was all done For bein' done too soon, For bein' done too soon. For bein' done.
  13. E. A. Poe, Henri Rousseau, Sholom Aleichem and Caryl Chessman, Alan Freed and Buster Keaton too
  14. Rama Krishna, Mama Whistler, Patrice Lumumba and Russ Colombo, Karl and Chico Marx, Albert Camus.
  15. Ho Chi Minh, Gunga Din Henry Luce and John Wilkes Booth And Alexanders King and Graham Bell.
  16. Jesus Christ, Fanny Brice, Wolfie Mozart and Humphrey Bogart, and Genghis Khan, and on to H. G. Wells...
  17. I think I saw the most shows in a given year in '88, over 30. Spring tour from Atlanta to Worcester, Summer tour from Alpine to Oxford, Cap Center shows and the deep south mini tour from St. Pete to Dallas. The band was certainly on fire from 87-90. re: The person who is turned off by Brent: try checking out some shows on video with Brent. Part of his charm/awesomeness is in his interaction(s) with Garcia, often. The two of them would often just beam at each other while playing on a riff. I always appreciated the guy as he brought new life to the band, imo. He was charismatic on stage and a
  18. How did the kid get hands on ELO? That stuff should not be allowed in any house that deems itself "safe".
  19. Think we mentioned this at one point but (grew up in CT, too) my first show was New Haven 5.11.81.....
