  1. Seems like it's been like that for quite awhile now. Sure, there are always a few that are obvious choices, but for the most part, it does seems fairly random. I wonder how much clout the award actually holds anymore. Is it brought up in trade talks, even, do players relish it, etc.
  2. I just watched it (dvr). Considering the time constraints, of course, I thought it was a very solid version. I like the Blues twist Jackie brought to it and the chick that's been sitting in with the band for a spell is a great touch.
  3. And 2008 NL Gold Glovers (announced yesterday): P, Greg Maddux, LAD C, Yadier Molina, STL 1B, Adrian Gonzalez, SD 2B, Brandon Phillips, CIN 3B, David Wright, NYM SS, Jimmy Rollins, PHI OF, Carlos Beltran, NYM OF, Nate McLouth, PIT OF, Shane Victorino, PHI
  4. That'd be a mistake, in my eyes. I think even a two-year deal is pushing it, though.
  5. Exactly. 'Tek is a good influence in the clubhouse, handles pitchers very effectively, and still has merit as a backstop- but he's pretty shot offensively and he's wearing down defensively, too. He needs a part-time gig somewhere but I don't think he'd be willing to take one. A two-year contract is fair to him, I think. Of course, he and Boras are free to disagree but I'm not sure where that'll leave him/them.
  6. I give Boras credit for trying, but please, it's insulting to posit that Varitek is worth a four year contract at this stage in his career, let alone that kind of money simply because he's a "leader." If the Sox can get Salty from Texas that's a fair shake.
  7. The hearts of many a young lady (and a few young men) due to him being a True Yankee and one with calming eyes, at that. And don't forget the intangibles.
  8. B2 makes a good point. Obama was afforded the luxury of the McCain campaign derailing itself. But rest assured, he could've and would've gone ugly if the need arised.
  9. I hear you, Mr. Rain: it can't be both. It's a retreat mechanism, I believe.
  10. I wonder what condescending thing Lou would have to say about a "third party" intervening in their spat. Regardless, he'd probably blame B2's youth for the collision, anyway.
  11. In high school we used to call that a typical Friday night random beat-down for New Haven.
  12. LaRue has admitted it was a mistake and actually involved two separate issues. No grounds to this rumor.
  13. He's still got time before the results are in to change support, though.....
  14. I'm pretty sure it's tomorrow night P & F are on Conan....
  15. Uncannily, Chris Gaines called him a month later to remind him about overdue library books.
  16. Bob Weir called me yesterday. Headcount.
  17. "The Brewers have within the past day or so presented a multiyear offer to superstar free-agent pitcher CC Sabathia that is believed to be in the $100-million range." http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/base...thia/index.html NYY sign Mitre to 1 yr deal: Rays decline Floyd's buy-out: Brewers to keep Cameron at $10 m for next season: http://www.rotoworld.com/content/HeadLines...B&hl=251606
  18. Oh yeah. You going to Leftover tonight?
  19. I've gotta second this. Leo just has some flat-out amazing and happy stuff. I'm talking the vast majority of his non-lyrical stuff: "Cripple Creek," "Busted Bicycle," "Vaseline Machine Gun," "The Driving of the Year Nail," "Buckaroo," "Up Tempo," etc., etc. And Bluegrass, in general, always puts a smile on my face.
