  1. I've only heard him do it in the middle of "Big Things," usually adding a very nice and melodic verse or two of The Beach Boys' " Wouldn't it be Nice" to the tail end of "Come Together" before heading back into "Big Things." ed. Here's a youtube version of the Dino, Jr. cover: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZKXRpcFcUY And here's my favorite version of Jerry Joseph and the Jack Mormons doing the "Big Things-> Come Together- Wouldn't it be Nice-> Big Things" live two years ago at Egos in Salt Lake City (off of archives): http://ia301124.us.archive.org/3/items/jjj...15d1t02_vbr.mp3
  2. Up at Red Rocks a few years ago Warren came into one of the parking lots and played for about 30-40 min. on a makeshift stage for a very small crowd of us who happened to be hanging out right there, then played a solo set to open the show, then played the 2 1/2-3 hr. P&F's show. Don't know if he played in the parking lot afterwards or not....

  4. Couldn't agree more, but this is partly the fault of parents who have no problem turning their kids into over-protected pussies and partly the fault of the times. Remember, the coach is probably a parent too! Johnny gets a trophy for failing and then gets to school and can't understand why, by putting little to no effort in, he fails and then goes on to under perform in his shitty job after high school....
  5. Pretty decent of Indians team president Paul Dolan to post this letter to Cleveland fans: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...rtnerId=rss_cle
  6. Yep. I was there, too. Good times.
  7. That first step is a real doozy.
  8. Glad I didn't drive 20 hrs. r/t to Sioux City over the weekend: One Set: *Friend Of The Devil *Deal, *Ball & Chain, *Peggy-O (Fennario)> Cumberland Blues> *So Hard To Find My Way> Jam> The Wheel> Jam> Bird Song> Chest Fever> Caution (Do Not Step On Tracks)> Cold Rain & Snow Donor Rap / Band Intros E: Box Of Rain Though it's a decent set. Warren sat in with them at Rothbury, too. And that Teresa Williams chick continues to join them on a lot of tunes.
  9. Well, the documentary put a fairly good spin in favor of her case if there is a lot of doubt floating around. i had heard absolutely nothing about the case prior to viewing the doc. I did watch that Douglass High documentary last night (though I fell asleep 3/4 through) and I think it did a great job of highlighting the many factors that contribute to the situation that a lot of schools/teachers/principals/superintendents are put in with the No Child Left Behind Act. It really is an uphill battle and one that is almost impossible to win at many inner city schools when dealing with apath
  10. Although I think it can be tasteless to slam a person who's recently died, I can mostly agree with this. Doesn't mean he didn't have good qualities or wasn't loved.

  13. I watched Resolved last week: very good. A world I knew nothing about and pretty fascinating, actually. Last night I watch Ganja Queen, about a young Australian woman who was found with 10 lbs. of weed in her boogie board bag while taking a trip from Australia to Bali with her family. Certainly looks like a case of wrong place/wrong time/wrong bag, but there's still just a hint of "maybe she did...." Next up is the HARD TIMES AT DOUGLASS HIGH: A NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND REPORT CARD one about the inner-city struggles of HS students in Baltimore.
  14. Why you... Happy birthday my good man!
  15. I'm with you on this. Sweet land of liberty....

  17. Both very good albums. Rider, if you haven't listened to Devils and Dust you should give it a try. I've had it on my iPod for quite a while but just started listening to it 2 days ago for whatever reason. It's fantastic. Through and through, fantastic. The new one, Magic, is decent.
  18. And there's the rub. I'd be just as turned of if Jerry Remy and Don Orsillo kow-towed to the fans the way Hawk does. Of course there should be some loyalty to the home team/fans, but there's also a line (imo) that should be drawn in terms of calling a game subjectively/objectively. I prefer my announcers to call/analyse/comment on a play, player, game, whatever with as little bias as possible.
  19. I do watch a lot of other games and listen to a fair share of announcers and honestly, don't see the level of homerism that Hawk and his buddy provide. There's a reason he has that reputation. Granted, I haven't listened to one of his called games this season (why put myself in that position?) so maybe he's tapered it off. Still- his homerism is beyond tolerable for me. I vividly recall games I've watched him call where he is out and out disagreeing with umpire calls- balls/strikes even! Rubbish. I've heard Hawk is a decent guy and obviously has a passion for the game but I am no fan of his
  20. Hawk gets justly bashed, imo. He is probably the worst in the business. Imo. He is annoying to no end with his homerism and his cliched tripe and his catch-phrases. Imo.
